Snowfield Fox

Overview

The Snowfield Fox is a tameable pet introduced in Patch 1.08.00, which added a large group of small animals that can be raised and registered as companions. It is a pure white fox whose dense, snow-coloured coat lets it blend into the snowfields it roams, so it can be difficult to spot against the surrounding terrain.

Like other small-animal companions, the Snowfield Fox is won over in the wild by catching it, building its Trust through feeding, and then claiming it once Trust reaches 100. How to Tame

Location

The Snowfield Fox lives in the snowy uplands of Deepfog Basin, in the Hernand region. Use the fast travel point on the lower, left-hand edge of the basin to arrive nearby, then head toward a hill with a small water feature, where a waterfall feeds a stream running down the slope. A few grazing goats wander the area, which helps confirm you are in the right spot. The foxes appear up and down this hill rather than along the open roads, so scan the snowy banks and brush carefully on the way up.

Spawning and Catching

Snowfield Foxes can pop into view suddenly, sometimes right in front of you, and their white coats make them hard to see against the snow. If none are visible, run back and forth across the hillside to reset their spawns; the same trick works for other shy small animals such as the area's hedgehogs. Approach a fox slowly so it does not bolt, then trigger the catch prompt the same way you would when subduing a wild mount.

Feeding and Claiming

Once you have hold of a fox, feed it meat to raise its Trust. Cuts such as Lean Meat and Fine Meat each grant +40 Trust per feeding and can be bought in bulk from a butchery, so stocking up beforehand makes the process quick. Keep feeding until the Trust meter reaches 100, then claim the fox with the Take In action (Triangle on controller, or the equivalent prompt) to register it as your pet.

The table below lists meats commonly used to tame the Snowfield Fox along with its favourite food. Its preferred treat grants the most Trust per feeding, while standard meats are cheaper and easier to stockpile.

Related Wildlife

The same snowfields are home to the Snowfield Weasel, another white-furred small animal that can be tamed and kept as a companion. Both share the snowy, camouflaged look that makes them tricky to pick out at a distance, so it is worth lining up several catches in a single trip to the region.
