Overview
The Root's End Ruins Farming Loop is widely considered the most efficient method for farming Abyss Cells in Crimson Desert. Located at Root's End in the Hernand region near Sage's Peak, this method exploits the continuous enemy respawn mechanics at the ruins to create an endless loop of combat and loot collection. It is the fastest repeatable farm for Destruction I and Insight I Abyss Cores in the game.
Location
Root's End Ruins are situated along the northeastern edge of Hernand, consisting of strange vents built into the top of a mountain. To find the ruins, trek north of Hernand city past Three Saints' Falls and beyond the Hook Rapids. Look for "The Sage's Peak" text on your map; the ruins are located north of that label.
An Abyss Nexus (fast travel point) sits on a lower part of the mountain just north of the ruins. When you are close, a "mysterious energy" question mark appears on your map. Discovering and activating this Abyss Nexus is essential, as it serves as your reset point for the farming loop.
How the Loop Works
The farming process follows these steps:
Fast travel to the Root's End Abyss Nexus.
Climb to the summit where three to four rock crab enemies (Bismuth Oreback Crabs) are located.
Use Force Palm to flip the rock enemies onto their backs, then strike them with your sword to defeat them.
Watch the minimap for circular icons, which indicate that a defeated enemy has dropped an Abyss Gear. Collect all dropped items.
Leave at least one enemy pack alive in the cluster. This is critical: if you kill every single enemy in the group, they will stop respawning.
Fast travel back to the Abyss Nexus to reset the area.
Repeat from step 2. By the time you return to the summit, the enemies you left alive will have triggered the respawn of the entire cluster.
The combination of the nearby Abyss Nexus and the high cliff means you can force the game to respawn enemies in only a few seconds, creating one of the tightest farming loops in the game.
Expected Drops
Each loop cycle can yield the following rewards:
Drop | Frequency | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Common | Primary target; used for Abyss Gear synthesis and planting | |
Destruction I Cores | Every 2 to 4 runs | Boosts Attack Power when socketed |
Insight I Cores | Every 2 to 4 runs | Boosts Critical Rate when socketed |
Iron Ore | Common | Basic gear upgrade material |
Silver (from selling) | Indirect | Sell unwanted Abyss Gears and extra ore for silver |
With practice, you can average approximately one Abyss Core per minute using this method. Dedicated farming sessions of 30 to 60 minutes can yield substantial quantities of Abyss Cells and multiple Destruction or Insight cores.
Build Recommendations
AoE-focused builds work best for this farming loop, as the goal is to clear grouped enemies as quickly as possible. The following skills and approaches are recommended:
Turning Slash: A wide AoE melee skill that can hit multiple rock crabs in a single swing. This is the most popular choice for speed-clearing at Root's End.
Raging Lightning: Another strong AoE option that deals damage across a large area.
Force Palm: Essential for flipping rock enemies onto their backs, exposing their vulnerable underside for follow-up attacks.
Bow builds: Ranged builds can pick off enemies from the cliff edge before they cluster together, though melee AoE is generally faster for grouped kills.
Speed-clear builds that can one-shot enemy groups will maximize efficiency. Prioritize Attack Power and AoE damage Abyss Gears on your weapons to improve clear speed as you farm.
Important Warnings
Auto-save disruption: If the game auto-saves after you defeat a crab but before you fast travel, that crab may be permanently gone on your next loop iteration. Create a manual save before you begin farming so you can reload if the loop breaks.
Do not kill all enemies: If every enemy in the cluster dies, the entire group stops respawning permanently. Always leave at least one pack alive to maintain the loop.
Inventory management: Your inventory can fill up during long sessions. Periodically sell or store unwanted items to keep collecting drops.
Tips
Bring a full stock of food for healing. Use the Make Now feature for quick cooking if you run low.
Equip Abyss Gears that boost drop rates if available.
Combine this active farming method with passive dispatch missions running in the background for maximum resource gain per session.
After farming, visit a Witch NPC to synthesize duplicate Abyss Gears into higher-level versions. See the Abyss Core Synthesis Guide for details.
