Overview
Crimson Desert features several restricted areas controlled by different factions. Guards block entry unless you can prove you belong, whether through faction-specific clothing, a purchased pass, or by sneaking past undetected. This guide covers every known method for getting into these areas and the consequences of failing.
Three approaches exist: wearing a disguise (the most reliable method), presenting a key item like a visitor pass, or using Stealth to sneak in without being seen.
Disguise Mechanics
Disguises are the primary way to enter guarded zones. Each restricted area has specific attire that grants access. The game introduces this system when you first try to enter Hernand Castle during the main story.
A few rules apply to disguises:
Only the top piece of the outfit is required for entry. You can mix the faction top with any other armor, boots, or accessories you want.
Disguise items are tagged as "Disguise" or "Access: [Zone]" in your inventory. Some items (like the Scholastone Uniform) lack visible tags but still work.
Once you have entered a restricted area wearing the correct attire at least once, you can return later in any clothing. The initial entry is what matters.
If you accidentally sell your disguise to a vendor, you can buy it back by selecting "Repurchase" from that merchant's shop.
Guarded Areas and Entry Methods
Location | Disguise | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
Hernandian Attire (top). Obtained as a quest reward for cleaning a chimney for a married couple in the village below the castle. | Canta Armor set pieces also grant entry. After your first visit, any clothing works. | |
St. Halssius' House of Healing | St. Halssius Priest Attire set (Hat, Cloak, Attire, Leather Footwear). Available for 10 silver from an NPC along the right side of the outer wall. | Buy a St. Halssius Visitor Pass for 10 silver from Alfred at the Church of Hernand. Or sneak in via the ladder on the left side, waiting for guards to pass on patrol. |
Scholastone Institute | Scholastone Uniform. Received as a quest reward during Chapter 4. | Scholastone Cloak, Cap, and Boots are available as Contribution rewards at a small hut near the main Institute building. |
Lioncrest Manor | Details pending confirmation. | Check back as more information becomes available. |
Hillside Manor | Details pending confirmation. | Check back as more information becomes available. |
Using Visitor Passes
Some restricted areas accept visitor passes as an alternative to disguises. The St. Halssius Visitor Pass is the earliest example; Alfred sells it at the Church of Hernand for 10 silver. When you present a pass to the guards, they let you through without checking your clothing.
Passes are one-time-use items in most cases. If you plan multiple visits, consider investing in the disguise instead, which works indefinitely (and unlocks permanent access after the first entry).
Stealth Entry
If you lack the right disguise and do not want to spend money on a pass, you can try sneaking in. The success rate depends on the location. At St. Halssius' House of Healing, there is a ladder on the left side of the building. Wait for two patrolling guards to move away, then climb up to the rooftop and drop inside.
Getting caught while sneaking into a restricted area results in ejection. Guards toss you out rather than arresting you, so there is no bounty penalty for a failed infiltration. You can try again immediately.
Stealth routes are location-specific and not every area has one. Disguises remain the most consistent method across all restricted zones.
Guard Detection Behavior
Guards at restricted areas check your appearance when you approach the entrance. If you are wearing the correct attire (even just the top piece), they raise the gate or step aside. If you are not wearing the right clothes, they block the entrance and tell you to leave.
Guards do not chase you for simply being at the entrance in the wrong clothing. They only become hostile if you attack them or commit a crime in their presence. Failed stealth attempts result in non-violent ejection.
Tips
Keep faction attire in your inventory even after gaining permanent access. Some quests may require you to wear specific outfits for dialogue checks or NPC reactions.
Only the top piece is required for entry, so you do not have to sacrifice your best armor stats just to get through a gate.
At St. Halssius, the stealth route via the ladder is free and repeatable if you time the guard patrols. Save your silver for other uses.
The Law System does not penalize failed infiltration attempts. You lose nothing by trying and failing.
Check Contribution reward shops near restricted areas. Faction-specific gear (like Scholastone items) is sometimes available for purchase with high enough Contribution.
You can pickpocket St. Halssius guards for pieces of the priest outfit, though the drops are not guaranteed. It takes multiple attempts.
