Campsites are the checkpoints of the journey. Every zone is dotted with them, and finding one converts a stretch of hostile country into somewhere Emma can stop, restock, and spend what she has gathered. The game tracks them as a discovery category: lighting the first one unlocks the First Fire achievement, and finding every campsite in the game unlocks Happy Camper, which sits among the rarest achievements on the list.
What a Campsite Does
Function | Detail |
|---|---|
Rest and recovery | The standard stopping point for recovering and preparing before pushing on. |
Attribute levelling | Experience earned from enemies and bosses is spent on attributes here, or at the Attribute Portal aboard the Walker. |
Weapon enhancement | Blades are upgraded at a campsite using materials gathered from the surrounding zone. |
Automatic cooking | Malefact Meat and Fish are cooked automatically on arrival, without needing a recipe. |
Battle Pack access | The Battle Pack opens at a campsite, so food can be eaten to refill the hunger gauge. |
Fast travel | Discovered campsites become the network the map fast travels between. |
Where They Are Placed
Placement follows the route rather than a grid. Campsites cluster before a new area opens up and immediately before boss arenas, which is the game signalling that a fight is next. Chapter 1 alone holds well over a dozen of them across the Ogouchi Buffer Zone, and the pattern holds through every later chapter.
Example Campsite | Where It Is |
|---|---|
Village Surroundings Camp | By the village near the walking vessel, the first camp in the game |
Village by the Bridge Camp | At the bridge north of the village |
Subcity 01 Entrance Camp | Underground at the entrance to Subcity 01 |
Cliff Facing Tower Camp | On the cliff by the Nushi's lair, next to the strongbox holding Chain Mail |
Quarry Interior Camp | In a cave on the western edge of the map |
Toward the Nushi's Lair | Just outside the entrance to Rangifer's lair |
Tailwater Village Camp | East of the ruined tower, near the rice paddies |
Campsites and Shrines
Campsites are one of two kinds of rest location. The other is the shrine, which is a separate discovery category with its own achievement and its own reward, and which does not offer the upgrade and cooking functions a campsite does.
