Overview

Boss encounters in Beast of Reincarnation fall into three groups. The Nushi are the great beasts that rule regions of the world and whose powers Emma captures as she travels. The paired fights set Emma and Koo against a human opponent fighting alongside their own creature companion. The Malefacts appear as recurring encounters that escalate across the campaign.
Most bosses are fought more than once. Rather than appearing in a single chapter and being retired, several return later at substantially higher levels with expanded movesets, which is why the same name shows up multiple times in the table below. Chapter numbering follows the campaign order set out under Main Story Chapters.
Boss Roster
Levels indicate the boss's level at each encounter, so a boss listed at several levels is fought that many times. Elemental weaknesses determine which blade elements and which arrow or bolt types are most effective; equipment options are covered under Weapons.

|---|---|---|---|---|

Where They Are Fought
Encounters are spread across five broad regions. The early game stays in the Kanto region, the middle stretch climbs into mountainous territory, and the late game moves through drowned and wasteland areas before reaching the Capital.
Region | Encounter areas | Bosses fought there |
|---|---|---|
Kanto | Ogouchi Buffer Zone, Ogouchi Colony, Ancient Civilization Zone | Rangifer, Nue Malefact, Lacerta |
Mountainous | The Great Wall Terraces, Pilgrim's Zone, Matsukawa Zone, Fuji Frontier | Nue Malefact, Shidou and Nue, Taurus, Rangifer |
Drowned | Giant Tree Zone | |
Wasteland | Crater Zone, Inumaki River Zone, Starfall Tower Zone | Taurus, Kunai and Kirin, Crimson Malefact, Ursa |
Mount Hiei Zone, Capital Zone | Shidou and Nue, Erymanth, Kunai and Kirin, Beast of Reincarnation |
The Nushi
Six Nushi carry the "X's End" achievement pattern that marks their defeat: Rangifer, Lacerta, Taurus, Corvus, Ursa, and Erymanth. Their names follow Latin animal and constellation terms, matching the creature each one is built around. Rangifer is the stag encountered first, and Ursa is the bear fought deep into the wasteland stretch. Each defeat feeds into the Flower System that tracks Emma's progress.
Paired Encounters
Two fights mirror Emma and Koo's own structure by pitting them against a human paired with a creature companion. Kunai fights alongside Kirin, and Shidou fights alongside Nue. Both pairs are fought more than once, and both are among the highest-level encounters in the game. The final Kunai and Kirin fight sits at level 49, immediately before the endgame.
Recurring Malefacts
The Nue Malefact is fought three times at rising levels, first during a flashback sequence and later as a standing encounter. The Crimson Malefact appears once, late, and is the only boss weak to water. These encounters connect to the wider Malefacts bestiary rather than to the Nushi progression.
Other Encounters
The Door Golem is an early non-Nushi fight, weak to bind and acid effects, and drops scrap metal on defeat. It belongs to the broader Golems enemy family rather than to the Nushi line.
Skills Unlocked by Boss Defeats
Most boss kills hand over a piece of the toolkit rather than just loot. A first defeat usually grants a Nushi Skill, the second an active pair (one Bloom Art for Koo plus a Blade Art for Emma), and a third the upgraded versions. Skills still cost Skill Points to unlock in the tree; the boss defeat is what makes them purchasable.
Boss and encounter | Unlocked |
|---|---|
Rangifer, first fight | Nushi Skill: Sakura Storm |
Rangifer, second fight | Sakura: Javelin, Blade Art: Sakura |
Rangifer, third fight | Sakura: Javelin II, Finisher: Sakura |
Lacerta, first fight | Nushi Skill: Dokuzeri Shower |
Lacerta, second fight | Dokuzeri: Fang, Blade Art: Dokuzeri |
Nue Malefact, Chapter 3 | Nushi Skill: Chimeric Flow |
Shidou and Nue, third fight | Erica: Strangle, Blade Art: Nue |
Taurus, first fight | Nushi Skill: Charging Botan |
Taurus, second fight | Botan: Chaser, Blade Art: Botan |
Taurus, third fight | Botan: Chaser II, Finisher: Botan |
Nushi Skill: Acid Burst Nobudou, Nobudou: Burst, Blade Art: Nobudou | |
Kunai and Kirin, second fight | Blade Art: Thunder, Numasugi: Skewer |
Ursa | Asagao: Boa II, Finisher: Asagao |
Kiku: Bloom Strike II, Finisher: Kiku | |
Beast of Reincarnation | Blossoms of Reincarnation, in versions for both Emma and Koo |
Two encounters give nothing. The Crimson Malefact is a pure roadblock with no skill attached, and the first Kunai and Kirin fight in Chapter 8 leaves the reward until the rematch in Chapter 12.
