Shrines are the second kind of rest location in the game and a discovery category in their own right. Official achievement text names them simply as shrines: Place of Return unlocks on finding the first one. Community guides attach a longer name, Dragon Vein Shrines, which has not appeared in any official text and is treated here as unofficial.
What Shrines Give
Detail | Value |
|---|---|
Reward | Life Fruit, awarded in multiples on interaction |
Achievement | Place of Return, for discovering the first shrine |
Tracked on | The zone maps, alongside campsites and other points of interest |
Function | A rest point, without the upgrade and cooking options a campsite offers |
Life Fruit is the consistent shrine payout. It also appears in the seedling roster, which means the same resource can be grown aboard the walking vessel as well as collected in the field.
Distribution
Shrines are not spread evenly across the campaign. There are none at all in Chapters 1, 9, and 11, and the heaviest concentrations sit in the middle chapters. Chapter 2 holds three inside the Ancient Civilization Zone, and Chapter 3 holds eight across The Great Wall Terraces.
Chapter | Zone | Shrines Present |
|---|---|---|
Chapter 1 | Ogouchi Buffer Zone | None |
Chapter 2 | Ancient Civilization Zone | Yes |
Chapter 3 | The Great Wall Terraces | Yes |
Chapter 4 | Pilgrim's Zone | Yes |
Chapters 5 to 8 | Matsukawa Zone onward | Yes |
Chapter 9 | Wasteland river zone | None |
Chapter 10 | Starfall Tower Zone | Yes |
Chapter 11 | Mount Hiei Zone | None |
Chapter 12 | Capital Zone | Yes |
Finding Them
Shrines are often placed off the critical path: on high ledges reached by grappling, underground in reservoirs, behind buildings, and inside ruined temples. Koo picks up the scent of nearby points of interest during exploration and marks them on the map, which is the most reliable way to sweep a zone before the story moves on.
