The Entanglement Gauge is Emma's combat resource layer in Beast of Reincarnation. It builds as she trades blows and parries in melee, and once filled it unlocks Emma-side combat options that compound the rest of her parry-driven kit.
Role in the Hybrid Combat System
Beast of Reincarnation pairs Emma's real-time katana combat with Koo's command-driven plant abilities. Each side of the duo has its own dedicated resource.
Entanglement Gauge. Emma's gauge. Fills through engagement in melee, especially clean parries and aggressive trades. Sits on the player's side of the screen during combat.
FP. Koo's resource, used to spend on commands from Koo's Command System. See the FP page for the full breakdown.
How It Fills
Source | Effect |
|---|---|
Successful parry | Primary fill source. Each successful Parry System pushes the gauge upward and stacks with Spirit Stones effects fired on the same exchange. |
Melee aggression | Sustained katana pressure contributes secondary gauge fill, which rewards staying inside the enemy's reach rather than chipping from outside. |
Perfect dodge | A perfect dodge, timed against an attack that flashes red and cannot be parried, also builds the gauge, so the two defensive options both pay into it. |
What the Gauge Is Spent On
The gauge has three sinks in the shipped game, and traversal is not one of them. A filled gauge pays for Emma's Nushi Skills, for her Blade Arts, and for Entanglement Overdrive.
Entanglement Overdrive
Overdrive is the headline spend. It slows time around Emma, and it needs at least one full blue bar to start. It is not available from the beginning: it has to be unlocked in the skills menu, it sits on the Strength attribute, and each of its five levels asks for more Strength, from 7 at level 1 up to 18 at level 5. Reaching level 5 also unlocks Execution Assist, which has Koo execute nearby enemies whenever Emma executes one.
The duration scales with how much gauge is spent, at roughly 1.8 seconds per bar, and it can be cancelled early with the same input that started it, which is how players bank the remainder for a later opening. On controller the input is both sticks pressed together.
Skills That Change the Economy
Skill | Requirement | Effect |
|---|---|---|
Expand Entanglement Gauge | Entanglement Overdrive level 1 | Adds gauge capacity across five ranks, which is uptime rather than raw power |
Instant Entanglement | Entanglement Overdrive level 2 | Chance to refill the whole gauge on defeating an enemy |
Entanglement Gauge Recovery | Entanglement Overdrive level 3 | Chance for a normal attack to restore 0.3 of a bar, 5 percent per rank |
Recovery Boost | Entanglement Overdrive level 3 | Chance to restore a full bar for Emma and a point of FP for Koo when a foe drops |
Entangled Follow Up | Tracking Shot level 1 | Restores 0.3 of a bar whenever Koo lands a follow-up attack |
Entangled Shot | Tracking Shot level 5 with Overdrive level 5 | Ranged attacks trickle the gauge back during Overdrive |
Spirit Stones plug into the same economy. Entanglement Increase gives a small chance to return 0.2 of a bar and a point of Koo's FP whenever Emma exploits an elemental weakness, and the Entangled family of stones, Parry, Dodge, Riposte, Combo, Counter, Conquest and Assassination, each hang an effect off the gauge being active.
Entanglement Versus FP
Aspect | Entanglement Gauge (Emma) | FP (Koo) |
|---|---|---|
Owner | Emma | |
Fills from | Parries and melee aggression. | Parries and active engagement; the same actions that drive the Entanglement Gauge also pay into FP, which is why the parry system anchors the entire economy. |
Spent on | Plant-ability commands from Bloom Arts via Koo's Command System. |
Build Interactions
Because parries fill both gauges and trigger Spirit Stones effects on the same beat, an Entanglement-focused build is functionally a parry build. The katana's tempo dictates how often the gauge ticks up, and the Spirit Stone slate dictates what each tick is worth.
Burst pivot. Pair the gauge with Critical-Rate-leaning Spirit Stones and a fast katana so the gauge fills during a damage spike window.
Sustain pivot. Pair the gauge with HP/Defense Spirit Stones and a mid-speed katana so the parry rhythm doubles as healing pressure on the trade.
Range pivot. A bow/crossbow-led build slows the gauge dramatically; Entanglement-focused players have a strong incentive to stay inside melee range rather than kiting.
Still Unrecorded
The gauge's decay rules between fights and its exact numeric ceiling before the Expand upgrades are not stated anywhere in the interface, and no official document covers them. Everything above the skill descriptions themselves is read from play.
