Taurus is the Nushi that presides over the Mountainous Region, a heavy quadruped that fights with its horns, its tail spikes, and the ground itself. It is the most-repeated Nushi in the campaign: twice in Chapter 4 at levels 26 and 29 in Pilgrim's Zone, then once more in Chapter 8 at level 44 after the route reaches the Crater Zone. It is weak to Acid in every encounter, and burn buildup also lands well.
Encounter Summary
Fight | Chapter | Level | Region | Location |
|---|---|---|---|---|
First | Chapter 4 | 26 | Mountainous Region | Pilgrim's Zone |
Second | Chapter 4 | 29 | Mountainous Region | Pilgrim's Zone |
Third | Chapter 8 | 44 | Wasteland Region | Crater Zone |
Reaching Each Fight
Chapter 4 builds its two Pilgrim's Zone fights around a puzzle. Emma leaves the walking vessel heading north, picks up the Sunrise Sword in the burning ground past the Scorched Grasslands camp, and has to clear the Golems that close in before the first encounter triggers. Winning it does not kill the boss: Taurus breaks off and retreats to its lair, and the way in stays shut. Opening it means reaching the Belfry, talking to the rusted golem at the central altar, and lighting the pyres in the order Sun, Earth, Moon. Ringing the bell afterwards clears the path, and the level 29 rematch waits at the end of it.
The Chapter 8 fight sits at the far end of a much longer approach. Emma crosses the crater to the Lake Base, works up through its cave and structural sections past a string of campsites, raises a submerged structure with a control panel, and puts down three masked strangers on the way before a panel at the top opens the lair. The lair itself is east of the fortress, so the fastest reset after a death is a fast travel back to Lake Base: Entrance. Kunai and Kirin are fought in the same Crater Zone straight afterwards at level 45, which is worth knowing before emptying every pouch on Taurus.
Rewards
Fight | Level | Rewards |
|---|---|---|
First | 26 | Taurean Memories, Nushi Skill: Charging Botan |
Second | 29 | Bloom Art: Botan: Chaser, Blade Art: Botan |
Third | 44 | Bloom Art: Botan: Chaser II, Finisher: Botan |
Clearing the line unlocks the Taurus's End achievement. Reward listings for the Crater Zone fight sometimes add a Dokuzeri Blade Art on top of the Botan pair. The chapter's own objective text and the boss roster both stop at Botan: Chaser II and Finisher: Botan, and the Dokuzeri line belongs to Lacerta rather than to this one, so only the two are listed above.
Attack Patterns
Attack | How It Works | Response |
|---|---|---|
Horn Swipe | Pulls its head aside and swipes one to three times, usually twice. | Parry each hit. It is the best source of Entanglement and FP in the fight. |
Projectile Tail Spikes | Whips its tail and fires three spikes, often while retreating. | Parry or dodge each spike. The delay between shots punishes an early dodge. |
Spikes from Below | Paws the ground, stomps, and erupts spikes across a marked area. The tell disappears in the second phase. | Unparryable. Sprint clear of the area or time a perfect dodge. |
Homing Ground Spikes | Stomps so spikes travel toward Emma along a red ground marker. | Unparryable. Dodge just before the spikes arrive. |
Horn Charge | Grows a single horn, then charges in a straight line. | Dodge it. The recovery is long enough for Entanglement Overdrive. |
Horn Swipe Combo | Glows red, chains four horn swipes, backs off, then finishes with a thrust. | Parry all five hits and punish the recovery. |
How to Beat Taurus
Taurus opens most sequences at range and closes with a chain, so the fight rewards patience over greed. Acid Arrows and Acid Bolts exploit the weakness from a distance while the boss gallops around the arena, and a corrosion or burn stack keeps chipping health between openings. Koo's binding skills are the other half: Higanbana: Roots can stop the opening rear-up and interrupt the longer combos, which turns the boss's most dangerous windows into free damage.
The second encounter adds a phase change once the health bar empties, and the boss becomes markedly more aggressive afterwards. Keep ammunition in reserve for that phase and read the red ground markers rather than trying to memorise a fixed rotation.
Save Entanglement Overdrive for the Horn Charge recovery or a bind, not for the middle of a combo.
Do not punish immediately after it retreats, because it usually fires tail spikes on the way out.
Restrain and corrosion buildup both hold up well across all three fights.
Preparation
Acid is the stated weakness, but burn buildup lands almost as well, and Chapter 4 hands Emma tools for both inside Pilgrim's Zone itself.
Tool | Where It Comes From | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
Sunrise Sword | In the middle of the burning ground past the Scorched Grasslands camp, guarded by the Golems that ambush Emma there | 45 melee attack with the Light of Dawn passive: each swing blasts flame for 8 percent slash damage and 6 flame buildup, lasting five seconds |
Skill Amber: Corrosive Fang | Dropped by the Lupine Malefact on the ground level below the Belfry Entrance camp, reached by dropping off the ledge beside it | Teaches Koo an attack that builds 40 Corrosion, the same status the boss is weak to |
Bottle of Acid | Crafted from two Chemical Reagents and slotted into one of Koo's item slots | Thrown for 100 Corrosion buildup, with no cost to Emma's own ammunition |
Higanbana: Roots | Bind-element Koo skill unlocked from Higanbana: Bloom | Pins the boss out of the opening rear-up and interrupts the longer chains, which is where most of the fight's damage comes from |
Acid Arrows and Acid Bolts | Crafted ammunition for the bow and crossbow, covered under Bow and Ranged Combat | Weakness damage during the long stretches the boss spends galloping out of melee range |
The opening is the same every time: Taurus rears onto its hindlimbs before it commits to anything. Binding it there, in the second or two before the first attack lands, is the cleanest free damage window in the encounter, and it is the reason a bind skill earns a slot even in a loadout built entirely around acid.
