Added the October 14, 2026 Korean balance changes: PvP damage cut, Assault Ambush rework, Evasion Stance cooldown change
Assassin is the single-target burst class. It opens from stealth, builds a stacking resource, and spends it on one target rather than spreading pressure. That makes it the roster's sharpest duellist and its least forgiving pick, since a missed window costs the whole sequence.

Field | Detail |
|---|---|
Role | Melee damage, single-target burst |
Weapon | Two daggers |
Signature mechanic | Stealth, poison, an illusory clone, and Insignia stacks spent by Insignia Explosion |
Party fit | Damage in five-player Expedition and ten-player Sanctuary content, and a priority pick in small-scale PvP |
NCsoft's own class overview calls the Assassin a powerful wildcard with a simple formula: stealth, ambush and a decisive kill, striking from the darkness with hidden blades. The class is part of the eight-class roster offered on the global service, which opened to Founder's Pack holders in paid Advance Access on September 30, 2026 ahead of the official launch on October 5, 2026.
NCsoft's official Korean guidebook describes the Assassin as an assassin class that quickly overwhelms enemies from the shadows: it closes in using stealth, then finishes fights in a short time with fast chained attacks using a dagger in each hand and status effects such as poison and stun.
Stealth is the class identity rather than a utility button: openers are stronger from invisibility, and the kit carries a decoy clone for repositioning. Poison gives it damage that keeps running while it is out of contact, and the stacking payoff means the class wants an uninterrupted sequence on one target rather than a rotation it can pause.
Insignia is the stacking resource. Savage Roar engraves one Insignia and Savage Fang engraves five at once, and the passive Exploit Weakness can summon clones on critical hits that add more. Insignia Explosion then spends the stack, with damage and stun chance rising for each Insignia on the target, and Aerial Bind always launches a target carrying five. Heart Gore only becomes usable on a critical hit, and Illusive Clone resets its cooldown while adding extra damage to every hit for a few seconds. Ambush and Triniel's Dagger deal more damage from behind, and the class has two stealth skills: Shadow Walk outside combat and Shadowstep, which leaves it stealthed for a few seconds after a strike.
The April 22, 2026 update on the Korean and Taiwanese service reworked party synergy skills for seven classes, turning the party-wide effects of the Ranger, Sorcerer and Spiritmaster into self-only ones. The Assassin section of that note had no party synergy changes; it reworked life drain and trimmed PvP values instead (Evasion Contract specialties, and 5% less PvP damage on Insignia Explosion, Ambush from behind and Triniel's Dagger), while raising PvE damage on the Quick Slice and Savage Roar chains, Heart Gore and Insignia Explosion.
The June 17, 2026 pass cut Shadowstrike's critical-damage specialty from 40% to 20% and reworked Defense Break (it no longer triggers on staggered targets), which shifted some of its ceiling from raw crit scaling toward setup.
Several Assassin tools are aimed at players. Spiral Slice strips a buff (more with specialties) and deals extra damage for each one removed, Smoke Bomb, Flash Slice and Infiltrate can blind, Triniel's Dagger lengthens the target's cooldowns, and Apply Poison cuts the healing the target receives. Most crowd-control chances that can fail against players land every time on NPCs. The game-wide 30 percent cut to PvP damage in the July 8, 2026 pass lengthened every fight on the Korean and Taiwanese service. Community tier lists vary on where the Assassin sits in PvP and PvE.
In the client data every class has 12 active skills, 13 Stigma skills and 10 passives, plus Dodge and chain follow-ups that do not take a slot of their own. Stigma skills are equipped through the Stigma System and keep every specialty they have unlocked. Each skill also unlocks specialties (numbered Spec 1 to Spec 5 in patch notes) as it levels up.
Assassin Skills is the full reference for this class: Korean names, unlock levels, cooldowns, MP costs, every specialty option, how the skills fit together, and the complete balance history since the November 2025 launch.

Changes made on the Korean and Taiwanese service since the Chapter 1 update, through the October 14, 2026 update. Earlier passes, back to the November 2025 launch, are listed on Assassin Skills, and the cross-class context is on Classes.
Date | Change (Korean and Taiwanese service) |
|---|---|
July 8, 2026 | Throw Shadowblade no longer costs MP; Illusive Clone's fifth specialty now shortens its own cooldown on rear critical hits; Shadow Walk duration and cooldown-reset bugs fixed. |
August 26, 2026 | Quick Slice and its follow-ups gained 20% PvE damage, Savage Roar and its follow-ups 10%, and Insignia Explosion 10% in PvE and PvP; Heart Gore's life absorption specialty fell from 1.5% to 0.7%; Spiral Slice now strips one buff at base instead of up to two. |
September 4, 2026 | Class Care: Illusive Clone's cooldown fell from 120 to 90 seconds and its fourth specialty now adds a chance of bonus damage on critical hits while the clone is active; Ambush Stance fixed while invincible. |
September 9, 2026 | Illusive Clone's bonus damage now shows a hit effect. |
September 16, 2026 | Longer cancel delays on Savage Roar, its follow-up and Heart Gore to discourage mouse macros; Quick Slice, its follow-ups and Insignia Explosion gained 10% PvE damage; a Shadowstrike specialty lasts 10 seconds instead of 5. |
October 7, 2026 | All classes: fixed attacks made while in the air sometimes failing to land on a target even when in range. No class-specific changes for this class in the October 7 note. |
October 14, 2026 | All classes: PvP damage reduced by about 30%. Assault Ambush now gives up to 80% more Defense and all elemental resistances for 5 seconds, scaled by the number of targets hit (previously up to 20% more Defense), and cooldown reduction no longer applies to it. A successful evade now cuts Evasion Stance's own cooldown: 0.3 seconds in the note, reduced to 0.1 seconds at a temporary maintenance the same day, which also stopped the effect applying to passive skills (NCsoft says it is meant for active skills only). |
Every class runs the same underlying loop: tab-targeting with active dodge and parry, skill chains that prompt a follow-up key, a Groggy stagger gauge on bosses, and Perfect Parry (plus Perfect Shield Block for Templars and Clerics), a low-chance block result that stops most of a hit's damage. Loadouts hold twelve active skills, a set of Stigma slots and ten passives, allocated with Mastery Points and Stigma Shards.
Skill names on this page are the English names used in the global client. The skill table is drawn from the global client data as of September 2026 and describes what each skill does rather than its per-level numbers, which change with skill level and with balance patches. The balance history covers the Korean and Taiwanese service, which receives changes on its own schedule; the global build can differ from it at any given time.
