The Xol
October 9, 2026 at 10:58 PM
Added dated September and October changes with separate gameplay modes
The Xol are the fourth main faction of ZeroSpace, a civilization of autonomous robotic consciousness brought to the brink of extinction by the dark crusade of the Legion of Truth. Their motto is "For Purpose. For Survival." Though fiercely individualistic, they are united by a single imperative: survival.

Their bodies are shells of liquid metal and their minds are older than any living empire. As the tide of annihilation turns against them, they bring the most advanced robotics technology in the galaxy to bear and reshape their armies in the middle of a fight.
Trait | Effect |
|---|---|
Merge | Combine simple units into far greater forms, then split them back apart when the situation changes. |
Reconfigure | Reshape the whole army mid fight to answer whatever threat appears. |
Outtech Everyone | The Xol field the most advanced robotics technology in the galaxy. |
The named Xol commander is Anrubic. See Heroes and Commanders for how commanders are used across the modes.
Anrubic costs 220 Hexite, carries 175 health behind 175 shields, and fights the way the faction does: it can grapple enemies and merge with other Xol units to augment its own abilities. Its Xyther Shield Wall cooldown was cut from 90 seconds to 30 on August 11, 2026.
The official faction page shows four sample units and says the full list is coming later. The current build data covers 11 Xol units and 9 structures, read in September 2026, the smallest roster of the four main factions, which is what the merge system trades away: fewer distinct bodies, more ways to recombine them.
Each of the eleven has its own page, reachable from the table below or from the index on Units. Merged units cost the parts that go into them on top of the price listed here, and both currencies are described on Resources and Economy.
Unit | Role | Cost | Supply | Health and Armor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Short range unit that folds into a sphere when not firing, doubling its move speed. Ordered as a pair | 50 Hexite for two | 1 each | 80, Light armor | |
Ranged unit that charges its shot to double damage out of combat and attacks ground and air | 25 Hexite, 50 Flux | 2 | 120, Light armor | |
Melee unit whose shield takes reduced damage from large hits, ground targets only | 75 Hexite | 2 | 150 plus 100 shields, Medium armor | |
Melee unit that gains energy when attacked, then spins for full attack damage to everything around it | 150 Hexite, 50 Flux and 2 Xyther | 4 | 500, Heavy armor | |
Light harassment flier that spawns weaker echoes of itself when attacking | 50 Hexite, 50 Flux and 2 Rollers | 2 | 125, Medium armor | |
Flier that heals nearby units 8 a second on contact and can Overclock allies for +35% damage and move speed | 50 Hexite, 150 Flux and 2 Spectrons | 4 | 250, Light armor | |
Slow siege unit that lands and uses Reverberate to slow enemy movement and attack speed nearby | 125 Hexite, 100 Flux and 3 Rollers | 3 | 200 plus 200 shields, Medium armor | |
Large rolling transport that carries up to 8 Rollers | 200 Hexite, 200 Flux | 4 | 400, Medium armor | |
Heavy artillery that hits up to four targets at once and can hurl 5 nearby Rollers, Overclocking them on landing | 125 Hexite, 250 Flux and 3 Spectrons | 6 | 1,000, Heavy armor | |
Flying flux harvester, respawning 60 seconds after it dies | 175 Hexite | None | 400, Medium armor | |
Light flying scout, capped at three | 25 Hexite | None | 75, Light armor |
Five Xol units are not built from scratch. They are assembled out of units already on the field, so a Roller or a Spectron is both a fighting unit and a component you are banking for later.
Merged Unit | Built From | Extra Cost |
|---|---|---|
2 Xyther | 150 Hexite, 50 Flux | |
2 Rollers | 50 Hexite, 50 Flux | |
50 Hexite, 150 Flux | ||
3 Rollers | 125 Hexite, 100 Flux | |
125 Hexite, 250 Flux |
Unmerge runs the process backwards. It was free to use and available every 20 seconds after an August 11, 2026 update, down from 5 power and a 60 second cooldown, which made splitting a merged unit back into its parts a routine mid-fight decision rather than a last resort. The same update let Replicate work on molten units at twice the usual power cost.
The Molten Core adds a second layer on top. Its energy pool upgrades one unit type at a time, and each upgrade rewrites what that unit does rather than just raising a number. A molten Roller loses its weapon but explodes on contact, damaging and slowing enemies. A molten Xyther rebuilds itself when destroyed, on a 120 second cooldown. A molten Spectron fires a slow projectile that deals area damage. The Core regains energy when an enemy dies on top of it and damages anything that walks over it, and since August 11, 2026 friendly Legion conduits can recharge it and units can walk across it.
The Echo used to be the fourth of those transformations, creating a hallucination on attack only while molten. In the current build the hallucination is a standing passive on every Echo, firing every 20 seconds for a 60 second duration, the Echo carries no molten mode of its own, and the Core's own text names only the Roller, the Xyther and the Spectron. A molten Echo trigger is still present in the build data, so read the molten Echo as unconfirmed in the current build rather than as removed outright. No patch note covers the change, so this is an observation of the build rather than a studio statement.
The World Forge is the wider version of the same idea: pick 3 of its 6 upgrades, take each to 2 ranks, or to 3 with the T3 Upgrades talent, and every Xol army unit benefits, with units standing near the Forge getting double the bonus.
Xol extractors are unusual in that the World Engine builds and rebuilds them without being told to. The Gyroforge, Spectral Foundry and Xyther Assembler each open tier 1 mercenary hiring, the Molten Core tier 2 and the World Forge tier 3.
Structure | Role | Cost | Health |
|---|---|---|---|
World Engine | Mining outpost that raises extractors on a hexite patch, upgradeable to attack | 400 Hexite | 2,500 |
Extractor | Hexite extractor, built and rebuilt automatically by the World Engine | Built by the World Engine | 330 |
Power Core | Xol supply structure, providing power | 50 Hexite | 250 |
Gyroforge | Base unit production | 100 Hexite | 1,000 |
Spectral Foundry | Base unit production | 100 Hexite | 1,000 |
Xyther Assembler | Base unit production | 100 Hexite | 1,000 |
Molten Core | Unlocks tier 2 Xol units and tier 2 mercenaries, opens the Echo, the Defiant, the Synapse and the World Forge, and upgrades individual unit types from a limited energy pool | 50 Hexite, 25 Flux | 1,250 |
Resonator | Defensive structure that takes its behaviour from whichever unit is fed into it | 150 Hexite | 600 |
World Forge | Unlocks the Gravitron, the Eradicator and tier 3 mercenaries, and holds 3 of 6 army-wide upgrades, each taken to 2 ranks or 3 with the T3 Upgrades talent, doubled for units standing near it | 100 Hexite, 100 Flux | 1,000 |
The Xol shipped as the newest faction and have seen the heaviest tuning. The figures above describe build ZS.c36778, current in September 2026.

July 2026 launch-era beta availability: The Xol became playable for the first time at the Early Access launch on July 20, 2026, and the published roadmap labels them a beta faction for the Early Access period. They can be played in the campaign, custom games and the Galactic War, but the studio holds them out of ranked matchmaking until community balance testing settles. They still appear as a filter option on the official standings page alongside the Protectorate, the Grell and the Legion of Truth.
Because their units merge and reconfigure, Xol army composition is less fixed than the other factions, and balance updates during Early Access have repeatedly adjusted how their buildings and prerequisites queue.
The Tier 2 talent now grants 25% faster production charge replenishment for Xol production and mercenary taverns. The description also lists "+1 max production changes"; this wording leaves the maximum-charge change unclear. Power Core now grants flying vision.
Tier 2 army upgrades were removed in the September 12 update; the September 19 update made second-tier army upgrades researchable through the Tier 6 talent.
The October 3 update completed the Xol roster for matchmaking, Survival and Skirmish and enabled Ranked 1v1 play. In Galactic War, the faction is available through Anrubic.
