The crafting recipe above follows the current public item page. 's Soul Eater guide lists a different base recipe of 15 Copper Ingots, 3 Rough Hides, and 10 Undead Essences at Level 1 Rare. The totals converge at higher level bands but the Level 1 craft quantities are a known source of confusion. If your in-game recipe panel shows different numbers than either of these, trust the in-game panel; community databases occasionally lag behind hotfixes.

Needle in a Haystack Quest Drop

Beyond the generic Highlands Boss Arena chest listed as the guaranteed loot source, Soul Eater has a narrative-tied drop tied specifically to Israel Hands. Defeating Israel Hands as the boss of the Needle in a Haystack story quest yields a copy of Soul Eater on the boss body or in the immediate reward chest, depending on the quest state at the moment of the kill.

Acquisition priority: the Needle in a Haystack route is the most reliable story-integrated path to Soul Eater because Israel Hands is a fixed story encounter rather than a roaming spawn. The Highlands Boss Arena 05 chest listed on the item card still drops the weapon, but that chest is only accessible after a successful arena clear. For most players, finishing Needle in a Haystack on the main story pace produces Soul Eater before any Highlands exploration run.
