Flora covers the rooted and anchored plant life of Proteus, separate from the mobile fauna documented on the Creatures page. In the Early Access build every plant is classed as sessile life, meaning it stays fixed in place rather than swimming or roaming. Flora is the main visual signature of each region, and it doubles as a supply of crafting material, food ingredients, and puzzle objects. This page collects the plant roster that has been documented in the current build, the groups it is sorted into, and what each group is actually good for.
The list below reflects what community documentation has recorded so far and should not be read as the complete set. Early Access adds and renames life forms between updates, region names vary between sources, and some plants only appear in areas that are still being built out.
How Flora Works
Every plant can be scanned. Pointing the Scanner or the Bioscanner at a specimen registers its entry in the PDA databank, where the description and any extra notes stay available afterwards. Scanning plants also feeds the same scan counter that unlocks additional passive BioMod slots, so a scanning pass through a new region pays off twice.
Beyond the databank, flora falls into a few practical buckets. A handful of plants are harvestable crafting inputs. Several yield Fibrous Pulp, which the Fabricator turns into Fiber and, further down the chain, into Biofuel Blocks for power. Others are cooking ingredients, and a small number are structural or story objects rather than resources at all.
Documented Flora
Groups follow the categories the game itself uses to sort sessile life. Region names are the ones most commonly reported for each plant; several plants appear in more than one place.

Harvestable Flora
A minority of the roster is worth cutting rather than just scanning. The plants below have confirmed uses at the crafting bench.
Plant | Yield | What It Feeds |
|---|---|---|
Feather Kelp | Fibrous Pulp | Two pulp make one Fiber at the Fabricator, which in turn feeds Biofuel Blocks |
Whip Gorgon | Fibrous Pulp | Same Fiber chain as Feather Kelp |
Macaron Sponge | Fibrous Pulp | Same Fiber chain as Feather Kelp |
Cradle Shootroot | Fibrous Pulp, plus Lucifer Rotsac when grown | Fiber and Biofuel Blocks from the pulp; the Rotsacs it grows are the source of Rubber and Grease |
Cherimoya Rotsac | Cherimoya Rotsac | A cooking ingredient, used alongside items such as Deepwing Egg Clump and Sugar of Saturn |
Pent | Pent | A build material: one goes into the Habitat Builder, three into the Processor |
Necrolei | Necrolei Cyst | A crafting material processed in the same way, two cysts per pass |
Growing Flora at a Base
Plants can be farmed rather than gathered on foot. The Growbed is the cultivation buildable that makes this possible, and its recipe comes from scanning two already-placed Growbeds at a research outpost inside the Alien Ruins. The two sit next to each other, so a single trip is enough to unlock the recipe.
The Growbed is placed with the Habitat Builder from the cultivation section of the build menu and costs a single Titanium.
It can be placed inside a habitat or on the roof of a base, and a single bed holds several plants at once.
Cradle Shootroot is the standout crop, because it keeps producing Lucifer Rotsacs for Rubber and Grease while the plant itself can still be cut for Fibrous Pulp.
See Base Building for how cultivation fits into the wider habitat, and Crafting and Resources for the recipe chains the harvests feed into.
Bloom-Affected Flora
Two entries on the list belong to the Blight rather than to a healthy ecosystem. Bloom Cankers are growths that clamp onto Angel Combs and hold them shut. Breaking a Canker with the Sonic Resonator or the Feedback Resonator clears the infection, after which the Angel Comb becomes interactable again. Because Angel Combs gate story progress in places, a stuck Canker can read as a bug when it is really an uncleared infection. The Adaptive Measures update also reworked the Bloom Parasite into the primary creature encountered around Bloom growths and rebalanced those encounters in the Coral Gardens and the ruins.
Naming and Coverage Notes
Region vocabulary differs between community sources. Some use lore names for a wider area while others use the smaller map biome the plant actually spawns in, so a plant can look like it has two different homes.
The roster grows between patches. Adaptive Measures added a missing scan icon for the Necrolei, which is a reminder that databank coverage lags behind what is already in the world.
Several plants have no recorded use beyond the scan. That is expected for an Early Access build and does not mean they will stay decorative.
