Seed Sparkle Lab is a Chinese game development studio based in Zhu Hai City, Guangdong Province. Starsand Island is their debut title. The studio was founded with the goal of creating a large-scale life simulation game that combined farming, building, romance, and exploration in a single open world.
The studio announced Starsand Island in May 2024 and ran a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2025, raising $311,000 from over 5,000 backers. The game entered Early Access on February 11, 2026 on Steam and Xbox Preview. It received a "Very Positive" rating on Steam (92% positive from 1,700+ reviews) and reached over 100,000 players in its first week.
Seed Sparkle Lab partnered with Pathea Games, the studio behind the My Time series (My Time at Portia, My Time at Sandrock). This collaboration brought four crossover characters to Starsand Island:
Gust and Ginger from My Time at Portia, available from the start of the game
Fang and Nia from My Time at Sandrock, arriving in Autumn
The two studios also offer a combined "My Time at Starsand Island" bundle on Steam.
The studio has committed to several player-friendly policies:
No in-game microtransactions
No anti-cheat systems
Full mod support planned (Steam Workshop in May 2026)
Community-driven development they call a "co-creation" philosophy
No planned price increase after Early Access
After the Early Access launch, Seed Sparkle Lab shipped five patches in eight days. A rapid cadence that addressed crashes, quest blockers, and controller issues. The studio posted a public statement on day one of launch addressing the review controversy proactively. See Update history for full patch notes.
