Overview
Sheep have the most color variants of any animal species in Starsand Island, with 12 distinct variants that produce differently colored wool. Colored wool is the foundation of the textile crafting chain: colored wool is processed into colored fabric at the Loom, which is then used at the Sewing Table to craft colored clothing and decorations. Collecting all sheep colors is both a long-term breeding goal and a practical necessity for players pursuing complete wardrobe and furniture collections.
Sheep become available at the Intermediate Rancher tier. The two base variants (Snowool and Ebowool) are purchased from Pastelle at Green Pasture Ranch for 650 Coins each. All other variants are obtained through breeding or the Islandpedia Bio-Research system.

Breeding Mechanics
Sheep color breeding follows specific mechanics that every rancher should understand before starting a color collection program. Key facts about how sheep color breeding works:
Breeding a Snowool with an Ebowool is the recommended starting point. This pairing can produce Fluffwool, Duswool, Blue Sheep, and occasionally other color variants.
Sheep color breeding is largely random (RNG-based). Specific parent color pairs do NOT guarantee specific offspring colors. Community testing on Steam forums confirms: "you cannot really mix colors to get the result, it seems pretty random."
The base sheep types (Snowool, Ebowool, Fluffwool, Duswool) appear to produce the widest variety of colored offspring.
Same-color parent pairs reportedly have a higher chance (approximately 60%) of producing same-color offspring, with roughly 30% chance of other colors and roughly 10% chance of Cloud Sheep.
Ebowool + Snowool (black + white) pairs reportedly produce approximately 30% black/white, 60% various colors, and 10% Cloud Sheep.
These percentages are community estimates, not officially confirmed values.
Community-Reported Breeding Combinations
The following combinations have been reported by players on Steam Community forums. Due to the RNG nature of the breeding system, these are not guaranteed outcomes but represent successful attempts reported by the community.
Target Color | Reported Parent Pairs | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Duswool | Snowool + Ebowool | Common result from base pair |
Fluffwool | Snowool + Ebowool | Common result from base pair |
Blue Sheep | Snowool + Ebowool | Also obtainable via Bio-Research (72 stamps) |
Orange Sheep | Snowool + Ebowool, Snowool + Snowool | Also obtainable via Bio-Research (72 stamps) |
Yellow Sheep | Purple + Snowool, Ebowool + Snowool | Multiple reports from different parent pairs |
Green Sheep | Snowool + Snowool, Snowool + Ebowool | Less common than Blue or Orange |
Red Sheep | Snowool + Ebowool | Reported from standard base pairing |
Cyan Sheep | Blue + Red | One confirmed report; appears rare |
Purple Sheep | Ebowool + Snowool | Multiple reports; still considered rare |
Cloud Sheep | Any pair (lowest odds), Ebowool + Snowool (slightly higher) | Super rare; some players report 200+ hours without obtaining one |
Bio-Research Alternative
Two colored sheep variants can be obtained without breeding through the Islandpedia Bio-Research system:
Complete 72 Islandpedia stamp entries to unlock Blue Sheep (3 sheep awarded).
The same milestone also awards Orange Sheep (3 sheep awarded).
This provides a guaranteed path to Blue and Orange Sheep for players who find breeding frustrating or want to start their colored wool collection without relying on RNG.
Wool and the Textile Chain
Colored sheep produce colored wool when sheared, and this wool feeds directly into the textile crafting pipeline. Seven wool colors are used in crafting: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange, Cyan, and Black. The Loom can also produce Purple and Rainbow fabrics.
Station | Input | Output |
|---|---|---|
Colored Wool (from shearing) | Colored Fabric (matching color) | |
Colored Fabric + Pattern | Colored Clothing items |
Sheep Products
All sheep variants produce the same set of products regardless of color:
Wool (every 2 days, colored by fleece)
Sheep Milk (daily)
Sheep Saliva (occasional)
Sheep Cheese Block (occasional)
Poop (daily)
Higher happiness (150+) increases the chance of premium-quality products. Use the Music Box and Friendship Collar to maintain high happiness.
Tips
Start breeding as early as Intermediate Rancher. The sooner you begin, the sooner RNG starts working in your favor.
Build multiple Sheep Barns and run several breeding pairs simultaneously. More attempts per day means faster color collection.
Use the Breeding House (3,500 Coins, Intermediate Rancher) to isolate specific pairs for controlled breeding.
Keep every new color variant you produce, even if you already have that color. More diverse parents increase the chance of producing new colors.
Blue and Orange Sheep are the easiest colors to guarantee: complete 72 Islandpedia stamps for the Bio-Research reward.
Cloud Sheep is the endgame breeding goal. Be prepared for many attempts. Use parents with the Strong trait (faster breeding cooldown) and Twins trait (extra offspring chance).
Colored wool sells for slightly more than white wool. Premium colored wool from high-happiness sheep sells for even more.
