Overview
The Cleaning Pod is a ranching automation device in Starsand Island that automatically cleans all animals within the enclosure where it is placed. Before unlocking this station, players must manually clean each animal using the Brush tool, which becomes increasingly time-consuming as ranch operations scale up. The Cleaning Pod removes that daily chore entirely for the enclosure it serves, freeing up valuable time for other farm activities.
How to Unlock
The Cleaning Pod blueprint becomes available after reaching the Intermediate Rancher tier in the Rancher profession questline. To reach Intermediate Rancher, you must first complete all Apprentice Rancher objectives from Pastelle at the Green Pasture Ranch. These objectives typically involve raising your first set of animals, learning basic care routines (feeding, cleaning, petting), and completing early ranching deliveries.
Once you have achieved Intermediate Rancher status, the Cleaning Pod blueprint appears in Pastelle's shop terminal at the Green Pasture Ranch.
Blueprint Cost
Item | Cost | Source |
|---|---|---|
Cleaning Pod Blueprint | 4,500 coins | Pastelle's terminal at Green Pasture Ranch |
After purchasing the blueprint, the Cleaning Pod recipe is permanently added to your crafting menu. You can build as many Cleaning Pods as you need from that point forward.
Crafting and Placement
Once you have the blueprint, craft the Cleaning Pod at your Worktable. The exact material requirements vary depending on your progression, but expect to need a combination of metal ingots and processed materials. After crafting, open build mode and place the Cleaning Pod inside an animal enclosure on your Hopeland property.
Placement rules:
The Cleaning Pod must be placed inside an enclosed animal pen or barn.
Only one Cleaning Pod is needed per enclosure. A single pod handles all animals within that space.
If you have multiple enclosures (for example, a chicken coop and a separate barn for cows), each enclosure needs its own Cleaning Pod.
The pod does not need to be near the animals. As long as it is within the enclosure boundary, it covers all animals inside.
How It Works
Once placed, the Cleaning Pod runs automatically at the start of each day. Every animal in the enclosure is cleaned without any player interaction. There is no maintenance cost, no fuel requirement, and no restocking needed. The pod simply works as long as it remains placed in the enclosure.
Before the Cleaning Pod, players had to equip the Brush tool and manually interact with each dirty animal. For a ranch with a dozen or more animals spread across multiple enclosures, this daily task could consume a significant portion of the morning routine. The Cleaning Pod eliminates this entirely.
Comparison to Manual Cleaning
Method | Time Cost | Requirements | Scalability |
|---|---|---|---|
Manual (Brush) | Several minutes per enclosure | Brush tool equipped, interact with each animal | Gets worse as herd size grows |
Cleaning Pod | Zero (automatic) | One-time placement per enclosure | Handles any number of animals in the enclosure |
Breeding Interaction
Animal cleanliness is a prerequisite for breeding. Animals that are dirty will refuse to breed, which can stall your genetics program if you forget to clean them. The Cleaning Pod ensures that all animals are always clean at the start of each day, which means breeding conditions are consistently met without any manual effort. For players focused on cross-breeding and genetic traits, this is one of the most impactful automation upgrades available.
Tips
Purchase the Cleaning Pod blueprint as soon as you reach Intermediate Rancher. It is one of the highest-value automation purchases for daily time savings.
Build one Cleaning Pod for each enclosure you operate. The 4,500 coin blueprint cost pays for itself quickly in saved time.
Pair the Cleaning Pod with the Feeding Trough to automate both major daily ranching chores (cleaning and feeding).
If you are running a breeding program, the Cleaning Pod prevents missed breeding cycles caused by forgetting to clean animals.
The Brush tool is still useful for befriending wild animals and petting farm animals for affection points, even after placing Cleaning Pods.
Place the Cleaning Pod in a corner of the enclosure so it does not obstruct pathfinding for animals or block your access to feeders and other stations.
