Crafting and Progression

Added full crafting tier ladder, armor set catalog, research path, skills table, talent/favor framework
Progression in Romestead is structured around biomes and crafting tiers. The two main avenues for getting stronger are crafting better gear and restoring the gods, and the two work together.
Explore a biome and gather its resources.
Craft better gear from those resources.
Restore the gods through offerings and sacrifices for buffs and technologies.
Defeat the biome's bosses to unlock the next crafting tier and rare drops.
Take on the next biome with stronger gear.
Each new biome introduces new resources, building tiers, and gear sets, so advancement is gated behind both exploration and boss fights. See Biomes and Enemies and Bosses for the regions and the bosses that gate them.
Weapons, armor, and tools improve in a consistent ladder. Each tier slots into the same equipment template; the materials change.

|---|---|---|
Rusted | Found in loot chests and on early enemies; placeholder gear before flint crafting. | Rusted Axe |

Copper | First metal tier; smelted at the Blacksmith. | Copper Gladius, Copper Hasta, Copper Pilum, Copper Daggers, Copper Sledgehammer, Copper Pickaxe, Copper Axe, Copper Shield, Copper Helmet, Copper Chestplate, Copper Greaves, Copper Arcuballista |

Beyond the metal ladder, Romestead has dozens of specialized armor sets crafted from boss drops, biome resources, or specific quests:
Civilian Tunic and Adventuring Hat: starter clothing.
Leather, Thick Leather, and Cured Hide sets: leatherworker progression.
Camillus, Druid, Augur, and Flamines robe sets: caster-aligned outfits.
Velites, Legionary, and Scorpio sets: classical Roman military armor.
Bearserker (Cowl, Furs, Fur Cloak, Sandals), Wolf Cowl, Bonesplint (Cowl, Armor, Boots): wilderness/hunter sets.

The University, a building added in Early Access, lets players research advanced recipes and craft powerful scrolls. Research generates Research Papers, which can be spent to unlock new recipes that are not found in the world. The Scrolls weapon class (Scroll of the Novice, Linen-wrapped Scroll, Feathered Scroll, Ember Scroll, Tectonic Scroll, Scroll of Vulcan, Scroll of Diana, Assassin's Scroll, Volumen Vitae) all flow from this research path.
Characters level thirteen weapon and gathering skills with use. Each skill scales damage with that weapon class or efficiency for that gathering action. See Skills for the full table.
Bows, Crossbows, Daggers, Spears, Swords, Sledgehammers: scale damage with the matching weapon.
Scrolls: scale damage with magic scrolls.
Shields: reduce energy cost of blocking.
Throwing: scale damage with thrown objects.
Unarmed: scale damage with unarmed strikes.
Mining, Woodcutting: scale damage against rocks/veins and trees.
Construction: scale progress per hit on construction sites.
Restoring a god grants Worship Points that can be spent in that god's talent tree. Talents are referred to in-game as Favors. Each god's tree includes new construction unlocks, stat bonuses, citizen efficiency buffs, and an Altar Blessing that can be activated one at a time. See The Gods and Worship for offerings and Worship Points.
