Rock Smash is a Ditto transformation move in Pokemon Pokopia that lets Ditto punch through terrain blocks to collect materials and clear pathways. It is the fourth move unlocked in the game, taught by Hitmonchan at Withered Wasteland. Rock Smash is essential for mining resources, digging tunnels, and accessing areas blocked by stone and rubble.
Hitmonchan needs an Exercise Resting Spot habitat, which requires a punching bag placed next to any seat. Craft or find these items and place them near each other to form the habitat.
Once Hitmonchan spawns, it will ask you to deliver 2 Stones. Pick up stones from the ground in Withered Wasteland and bring them back to Hitmonchan to learn Rock Smash.
Button | Action |
|---|---|
ZR | Punch the highlighted block in front of you |
Hold ZR | Continuously punch, destroying blocks that require multiple hits |
Right Stick | Aim at blocks above or below your current position |
When Rock Smash is equipped, destructible blocks in front of Ditto are highlighted. Each punch consumes PP. Some blocks require multiple hits to break. Using the Right Stick to adjust your camera lets you target blocks at different heights.
Standard Rock Smash (without food upgrades) can break soft to medium materials:
Material | Breakable? | Drops |
|---|---|---|
Grass blocks | Yes | Dirt, Grass |
Earth / Dirt | Yes | Dirt blocks |
Sand | Yes | Sand blocks |
Hay | Yes | Hay material |
Soft stone | Yes | Stone blocks |
Hard stone / Ore | No (requires upgrade) | N/A |
Black Rocks | No (requires Magnet Rise) | N/A |
Eating a Hamburger Steak temporarily upgrades Rock Smash (and Rollout), allowing you to break harder materials:
Iron Ore deposits become breakable, dropping Iron Ore for crafting.
Gold Ore deposits become breakable, dropping Gold Ore.
Pokemetal Fragments become collectible from certain rock formations.
Additional types of stone and rock blocks can be harvested.
The upgrade is temporary and indicated by a yellow meter on screen. Once it depletes, Rock Smash reverts to its base strength.
Rock Smash is required to reach Drilbur and unlock Rototiller. Clear the stones east of the Pokemon Center in Withered Wasteland to access the path.
When mining in caves, hold ZR and slowly walk forward to carve a tunnel. This is faster than punching one block at a time.
Always carry Hamburger Steaks when exploring caves in Rocky Ridges. Ore deposits are common there, and you do not want to pass them up because your move is not upgraded.
For large-scale block destruction, Rollout is faster since it breaks blocks while moving. Use Rock Smash for precision work and Rollout for bulk clearing.
