Overview
Human Records are collectible documents scattered throughout every region in Pokemon Pokopia. They are remnants of the human civilization that evacuated Kanto before the cataclysm, and include newspapers, personal diaries, magazine articles, photos, letters, and notes. Collecting them reveals the backstory of what happened to the human population.
Beyond lore, Human Records are the primary way to unlock emotes (gestures the player can perform). Some records also unlock outfits and hairstyles for character customization. Human Records are separate from Ancient Artifacts (which include Lost Relics, Fossils, and Mystery Slates).

Near the Pokemon Center and ruined houses

Some records are locked behind ability gates. For example, Sailor Dylan's Diary in Bleak Beach requires the Surf ability to reach, and certain Rocky Ridges records require powered-up Rock Smash.

Emotes
Emotes are gestures and expressions the player can perform. They are unlocked through two methods: collecting specific Human Records and talking to Pokemon with speech bubbles.
How to Use Emotes
Action | Control |
|---|---|
Open emote wheel | Press Down on D-pad |
Select emote | Left Joystick to scroll, A to confirm |
Add emote to wheel | Press X |
Remove emote from wheel | Press Y |
Switch between wheels | L and R buttons |
Use in Photo Mode | Left/Right D-pad (requires tripod) |
Players can customize up to three emote wheels, each holding multiple emotes. Switch between wheels using L and R. This lets players organize emotes by situation (greetings, reactions, poses).
Emotes from Human Records
Emote | Location |

Greetings! | Withered Wasteland, northwest of Pokemon Center near dried-up river |

Proud (from Pokemon interaction)
Despair (from Pokemon interaction)
Default Emotes
The following emotes are available from the start of the game:
Celebrate, Cry, Shocked, Beckon, Bow, Sleepy
Outfits and Hairstyles
Some Human Records unlock outfits and hairstyles for Ditto's human form. These cosmetics reference characters from Pokemon lore. For example, the Ninja Outfit is based on Koga's outfit from Fuchsia City Gym. Outfits can be changed at a standing mirror (purchasable from the PC Shop and placeable anywhere).
Lore Significance
The Human Records collectively tell the story of what happened to Kanto's human population before the events of Pokopia. Key story threads include:
Professor's Diary: Chronicles the research leading up to the cataclysm and evacuation
Team R Grunt's Journal: Reveals Team Rocket's involvement and their perspective on the events
Newspapers: Document daily life in Kanto's cities before the evacuation
Hacker's Confessions: Reveal technical details about what went wrong
Tips
Explore thoroughly near man-made structures. Records are often hidden beside benches, beds, and ruined buildings.
Return to areas after learning new abilities. Some records are behind walls requiring Cut, Rock Smash, or Surf to access.
Check Dream Islands for exclusive records not found in story areas.
Talk to every Pokemon with a speech bubble. Some emotes are only unlocked through Pokemon conversations.
Use Photo Mode with a tripod to take expressive screenshots using your unlocked emotes.
