Overview
MI9 is the special-department Beyonder arm of the Loen Kingdom's military intelligence service in Lord of Mysteries. Where the Nighthawks and Mandated Punishers operate under specific Churches, MI9 reports directly to the Loen government and combines spycraft, paranormal investigation, and political-judicial enforcement into a single organisation. They are one of the four official Beyonder organisations of the Loen Kingdom.

Mission and Structure
MI9 collects intelligence, protects national security, and counters hostile foreign Beyonder operations. The agency runs a dedicated Paranormal Court that specialises in Beyonder cases. Inside the Paranormal Court, Beyonders of the Justiciar Pathway serve as Judges and Beyonders of the Black Emperor Pathway serve as Lawyers, giving the agency its own internal legal apparatus for handling Beyonder-versus-Beyonder cases without exposing the regular court system to the supernatural.
MI9 controls the Justiciar Pathway and the Black Emperor Pathway. Neither is among the six Pathways playable at launch. In the source material these Pathways belong to MI9; MI9 NPCs and faction encounters have not been confirmed in the launch build.
Headquarters
MI9's main office is in Backlund, located on Bellotto Street in the West Borough. The building looks inconspicuous from the outside, a small three-storey building, but houses the agency's full operations, including the Paranormal Court, agent dispatch desks, and a dedicated Beyonder ingredient archive. The location is deliberately quiet to keep the agency's profile low.

Player Relationship
No MI9 faction reputation track has been published. The launch build's confirmed relationship layer is the Connections system, which builds bonds with named characters and grants a borrowed skill from each; it is not a faction reputation track.

Launch Build Status
The February 2026 Crimson Test did not surface MI9 directly, and the launch build has not either. Introductory references appear in Tingen-side dialogue, but the agency itself remains a Backlund organisation. Backlund has been shown in development material and the studio has described its setting work as complete, yet the city is not part of the launch world map and no MI9 faction content has shipped.
