Overview

Coffee culture is a surprisingly deep system in inZOI. The Coffee Craft skill lets Zois progress from pulling basic espresso shots to creating elaborate latte art worthy of a professional barista. There are 36 distinct coffee recipes spanning skill levels 0 through 10, each with a different Meow cost. Coffee Craft is described in-game as unlocking "more sophisticated coffee recipes with each level." The skill is available to Teenagers, Young Adults, Adults, Middle-Aged, and Elder Zois.

Beyond personal enjoyment, coffee ties into the business ownership system introduced in update v0.5.0 (December 23, 2025). Zois can open and manage their own cafes, serving the drinks they have learned to make to paying customers. Coffee also functions as a Zoi preference and connects to multiple Desired Life paths. The March 2026 update further elevated coffee's role by adding the Master Barista ambition, giving dedicated coffee crafters a long-term goal to pursue.

Required Equipment

To develop the Coffee Craft skill, you need two specific appliances purchased from the Kitchen Appliances section in Build Mode. Both machines must be placed in your home before you can begin brewing. When your Zoi makes coffee, the process starts at the grinder (for bean preparation) and finishes at the espresso machine (for extraction and assembly).

• Coffee Grinder: grinds whole beans before brewing. Required for most recipes. When your Zoi brews, they will start by grinding the beans.

• Espresso Machine: the primary brewing device. Interact with it and select "Make Coffee" to open the recipe menu. Select the recipe you wish to brew and spend the required Meow.

Results vary in quality as you develop the skill, and brewed coffee expires like food. Do not leave it sitting out too long or it will spoil.

For skill progression and cafe business operation, you must use the espresso machine and grinder combination. The pod machine is purely a convenience item for quick energy.

Effects of Drinking Coffee

Drinking coffee provides tangible benefits to a Zoi's needs. The primary effect is an energy boost that helps keep your Zoi awake and gives them an additional burst of energy to perform tasks, remedy certain needs, and temporarily fight off exhaustion. This makes coffee particularly useful for Zois pulling long work sessions or studying late into the night.

Coffee also contributes to a Zoi's Fun need when they enjoy the activity, especially for Zois with the Coffee preference. A Zoi who likes coffee will gain more satisfaction from brewing and drinking it compared to a Zoi without the preference. Decaf options (available from both the espresso machine and pod machine) still satisfy thirst and fun needs but provide a reduced energy effect, making them suitable for evening consumption when you do not want to disrupt your Zoi's sleep schedule.

Coffee Quality

Each cup of coffee has a chance to come out at varying quality levels. Quality is not fixed per recipe; instead, it depends on your Zoi's current Coffee Craft skill level relative to the recipe's difficulty. A Level 0 Zoi brewing an Espresso may produce inconsistent results, while a Level 10 Zoi brewing the same Espresso will almost always produce a high-quality cup.

Higher-quality coffee provides greater need satisfaction when consumed and sells for more in a cafe business. This means that leveling your Coffee Craft skill has a compounding benefit: you unlock more expensive recipes, and you also produce better-quality versions of every recipe you already know.

Coffee Recipes by Skill Level

All recipes below require a coffee grinder and espresso machine. The Meow cost listed is per cup. Locked recipes appear grayed out in the menu until the required skill level is reached. The table covers all 36 confirmed drinks organized by the skill level needed to unlock them.

Latte Art

Level 8 is where coffee becomes art. Four drinks feature visible latte art patterns poured into the foam. Each pattern has a distinct visual that your Zoi physically performs during the brewing animation. The patterns, in order of perceived difficulty, are:

1. Heart: the simplest shape, formed by a single pull through poured milk. Most Zois master this first.

2. Rosetta: a fern-like leaf pattern that requires side-to-side wrist movement during the pour.

3. Cat: a playful cat face with pointed ears drawn into the crema. A fan favorite that fits inZOI's cat-centric branding.

4. Swan: an elegant swan silhouette and the most technically demanding of the four patterns.

Latte art drinks sell well in cafe businesses because they cost 13 Meow to produce and command strong customer satisfaction. If you are running a cafe, prioritizing Level 8 and above drinks provides the best balance between cost and selling appeal.

Serving Coffee to Other Zois

Brewed coffee is a physical item in your Zoi's inventory. You can serve it to household members, friends visiting your home, or anyone present in the same space. When another Zoi drinks coffee your Zoi made, they receive the same energy and satisfaction benefits as if they had brewed it themselves. The quality of the cup (which depends on your skill at the time of brewing) determines how much benefit the recipient gets.

Coffee also works as a social lubricant. Sharing a cup with a friend or neighbor can provide a small relationship boost, similar to sharing a cooked meal. For households with multiple Zois, having one skilled barista make coffee for the entire family is more efficient than each Zoi brewing individually, since the barista's higher skill produces better-quality cups.

Leveling Strategy

Coffee Craft levels up by making coffee consistently. There is no shortcut; each brew provides skill experience, and you can only brew one cup at a time. The skill takes time to master, so plan for gradual progression across your Zoi's daily routine.

Some tips for efficient leveling:

• Start cheap. Americanos and Espressos at Level 0 cost only 5 Meow each and provide skill experience at the same rate as more expensive drinks. There is no bonus XP for brewing higher-cost recipes, so save your Meow early on.

• Keep your Zoi comfortable. A Zoi with satisfied needs (energy, fun, hygiene) gains skill experience more efficiently. Hungry or exhausted Zois learn slower.

• Try new recipes once. When you unlock a new skill level, brew each new recipe at least once. First-time recipe completions may give a small experience bonus.

• Brew during downtime. If your Zoi has free time between work shifts or social events, queue up a few brews. The activity takes only a few in-game minutes per cup.

• Combine with a cafe. Once you open a business, every coffee brewed to fill customer orders also grants skill experience. This lets you level up while earning Meow simultaneously.

Coffee as a Preference

Coffee is classified as a Food Preference in inZOI's personality system. A Zoi with the Coffee preference will naturally enjoy any activity involving coffee: making it, drinking it, or visiting cafes. Preferences can be set during Character Creation or may change over time based on events and external actions. Each Zoi can have a maximum of 10 preferences at any time, and preferences can be adjusted through the Manage Zois menu.

Coffee aligns with multiple Desired Life paths:

Additionally, Coffee Craft (referred to as "coffee art" in some Desired Life descriptions) appears as a skill component in the Life of Simplicity, Life of Excitement, and Life of Respectability paths. If your Zoi's Desired Life includes coffee art, leveling Coffee Craft will directly contribute to their life fulfillment.

The Cafe Business

Update v0.5.0 (December 23, 2025) introduced business ownership, and cafes are one of the primary business types. Running a cafe combines Coffee Craft skill with business management. Cafes have low startup requirements compared to restaurants, making them an ideal first business for new players.

Opening a Cafe

To start a cafe, follow these steps:

1. Purchase a business property. View available properties in the Edit City window, marked as "Business Property" in their description.

2. Fill out the business registration from the Business App on your Zoi's smartphone.

3. Set business hours under Business Settings. You can start as a sole operator without hiring anyone.

4. Select the recipes you want to offer under Business Settings > Recipe. Only recipes your Zoi knows (based on Coffee Craft level) appear here.

5. Apply the Cafe preset from the Business Type tab. This automatically configures customer activities ("Drink Coffee," "Eat," "Read a Book") and sets up a management environment suited to a cafe.

6. Ensure "Order" is set under Customer Activity in Player Settings. This is what makes Zois buy your products.

7. In Build Mode, search for and place a kiosk. This is the object customers interact with to place orders.

Managing Operations

Profitability Tips

Cafes can be quite profitable once you understand the key mechanics. Some players report earning over 4,500 Meow in daily net profit from well-run cafes, with high-traffic locations in Cahaya generating even more.

• Arrive early and pre-stock. Get to your business before opening and fill display cases with coffee and baked goods. Customers buy displayed items immediately, while made-to-order drinks cause waiting.

• Combine with Baking. Adding baked goods alongside coffee significantly increases revenue. Group baked items (like a batch of cookies) sell for roughly 10 times their ingredient cost.

• Match staff skill to menu. Employees can only prepare recipes at their own skill level. If you list Level 8 latte art on the menu but your staff is Level 3, they cannot fill those orders. Either level up your employees' skills or restrict the menu to match their abilities.

• Keep an emergency fund. Reserve at least 5,000 Meow after opening. Early days may have low revenue until regular customers establish a pattern.

• Adjust pricing carefully. Start with default prices and adjust based on customer flow. Pricing too high drives customers away, while pricing too low cuts into your margins.

• Expand the menu over time. As your Coffee Craft level rises, add the new recipes to your business menu. Higher-level drinks (10-15 Meow cost) sell at proportionally higher prices.

Multiple Businesses

A single household can own multiple businesses through the multi-store management system, allowing an entrepreneurial Zoi to run a chain of cafes or diversify into other business types like bakeries, restaurants, florist shops, and bars. Each business is managed independently with its own staff, hours, and finances.

Combining Coffee with Other Skills

Coffee Craft becomes significantly more valuable when paired with complementary skills. The following combinations create powerful synergies, especially for business-oriented Zois:

Master Barista Ambition

The March 2026 update (v0.7.0, the one-year anniversary update) introduced three new ambitions: Master Barista, Master Baker, and Master Bartender. The Master Barista ambition gives Coffee Craft enthusiasts a structured long-term goal to work toward.

Like other ambitions in inZOI, Master Barista likely consists of three escalating levels with progressively harder requirements. While the exact goals have not been fully documented yet, ambitions in the crafting category typically require reaching the maximum skill level (Level 10), producing a certain number of items, and achieving quality milestones. Completing all three levels of an ambition unlocks unique interactions exclusive to that ambition.

This ambition pairs naturally with the cafe business system. A Zoi pursuing Master Barista can work toward the ambition goals while simultaneously earning Meow from their cafe, creating a gameplay loop where skill progression and business growth reinforce each other.

Tips and Common Mistakes

Whether you are brewing your first Espresso or running a chain of cafes, these practical tips will help you get the most out of inZOI's coffee system:

• Do not waste Meow on expensive recipes early. All recipes give the same skill XP regardless of cost. Stick to 5-Meow Espressos and Americanos until you hit Level 4 or 5, then switch to the new unlocks.

• Consume or serve coffee promptly. Brewed coffee spoils over time, just like cooked food. If you leave cups sitting on counters, they will eventually go bad and need to be thrown away.

• Place equipment strategically. In your home, position the coffee grinder and espresso machine close together to minimize walking time. In a cafe, place them near the kiosk for faster order fulfillment.

• Use the pod machine for quick fixes. If your Zoi needs energy but you do not want to spend time brewing, the pod machine dispenses a cup instantly for 4 Meow. It does not level your skill, but it keeps your Zoi functioning.

• Check your Zoi's Desired Life. If their Desired Life includes coffee art, leveling Coffee Craft contributes directly to life fulfillment. This makes the skill doubly rewarding for those Zois.

• Do not set menu items above employee skill. In a cafe business, employees can only prepare drinks at their own skill level. Listing recipes they cannot make leads to unfillable orders and frustrated customers.

• Watch for spoiled display items. Coffee and food items in display cases will eventually spoil. The main way to remove spoiled items is to delete the display case in Build Mode and place a new one. Check cases regularly during business hours.

• Invest in the Coffee preference. If you plan to focus heavily on coffee, setting the Coffee preference during Character Creation gives your Zoi greater enjoyment and potentially faster skill gains from all coffee-related activities.

Future Development

The Coffee Craft skill has grown in relevance with each major update. The v0.5.0 business update connected brewing skill to cafe profitability, and the March 2026 anniversary update added the Master Barista ambition. The 2026 roadmap includes expanded career systems, freelance work, and new reward tiers that may further integrate coffee-related content. The community has also expressed interest in barista competitions and coffee-themed events, though these have not been officially confirmed.
