Water Mages

Hedge Water Circle joining-path mechanics as not publicly demonstrated outside trailers (2026-05-15)
The Water Mages are the magical circle affiliated with the New Camp. Like the Fire Mages of the Old Camp, they were among the original mages involved in raising the Barrier, but they broke away after the ritual went wrong.
Where the Fire Mages sided with the Crown and the ore trade, the Water Mages sided with the rebels of the New Camp. Their single running project is finding a way to break the Barrier and let the Colony's prisoners leave, which is why the New Camp funnels its ore toward them rather than trading it out.
The Water Circle is led by Saturas. Lares is one of his senior mages, and day-to-day political authority at the top of the New Camp is shared between Saturas and the rebel commander Lee. This dual leadership is what gives the New Camp its more decentralised feel compared to Gomez's rule over the Old Camp.

The Water Mages are the faction most directly tied to the Focus Stones arc. Saturas's research treats the Focus Stones as artifacts that touch on the same magic that raised the Barrier, and the Hero is eventually pulled into that research regardless of which camp they ultimately commit to.
Saturas and Lee share top-level authority at the New Camp. Saturas directs magical research and the long-term Barrier project; Lee commands the camp's combat forces, including the Mercenaries. This split is what gives the New Camp its more decentralised feel compared to Gomez's rule over the Old Camp.
A mage-oriented Hero in the New Camp works through Lares, then meets Saturas, and can in principle pursue a place in the Water Circle for the camp's highest magical training; the in-build details of that progression have not been publicly demonstrated outside trailer footage.
