Charioteer

Added the chariot mechanic on the Hannibal's Trial map; dated open gaps on exams and movement
The Charioteer is a Specialty class in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Nintendo's dedicated presentation picked it as one of three examples of what the tier does, describing Charioteers as able to strike multiple enemies in a straight line. The unit fights from a chariot pulled by a pair of horses, which is why it counts as cavalry.
Field | Value |
|---|---|
Tier | Specialty |
Unit type | Cavalry |
Mount | A chariot pulled by a pair of horses |
Proficiency | Bow at minimum |
Movement | Not published |
Attack pattern | Strikes multiple enemies in a straight line |

Hitting more than one enemy per attack is rare in this game. Only two published classes do it, and they do it differently: a Charioteer strikes along a straight line, while the Elephant Rider strikes the enemies in its path. That gives the Charioteer a reason to line up a shot down a corridor or a row of advancing units rather than to pick the nearest target.
Counting as cavalry cuts both ways. Spears deal heavy damage to cavalry units in this game, and the Horsekiller Bow carries bonus damage against the same category, so a Charioteer is exposed to weapons that a foot unit shrugs off. Combat System covers positioning and counterattacks, and Weapons covers the per-type properties that take the place of a weapon triangle here.
Benditz leads the Thundercloud Knights and is the one character shown in the class. He is playable, and he also stands as a chapter boss on two routes, which makes him a clean example of the way this game reuses clan leaders on both sides of a match.
Appearance | Detail |
|---|---|
Boss against Ribeira Winds | Cai route, Part 1 Chapter 5, fighting as a Charioteer |
Boss against House Lamine | Dietrich route, Part 1 Chapter 5 |
Playable | Shown as a Charioteer fighting alongside Leda |
The presentation used one of his matches to explain how a battle ends, with defeating the leader of the opposing side named as a victory condition. Benditz is the leader on screen while that rule is spelled out.
Chariots turn up outside the class as well. A commercial shows Tialla about to be run down by one before Dietrich cuts it in two, and another scene has Theodora slicing a chariot in half during Saramis's fight against Arago. None of those is a Charioteer unit in play; they are cutscene appearances of the same vehicle.
Chariots also shape at least one battle map. In Hannibal's Trial, a Chapter 4 battle on Dietrich's path that is won by pulling every lever on the field, toppling pillars cuts down how far the enemy chariots can move. The boss of that path's early stretch, Hannibal, is himself listed as an Elephant Rider rather than a Charioteer.
As of September 2026, this wiki has not recorded exam requirements for the Charioteer or for any other Specialty class. One preview puts the unlock for Specialty-tier exams at Renown level 4, read off a single menu screen, so treat that figure as provisional. Certification Exams covers the system.
As of September 2026, no base stats, growth rates, stat modifiers or class skills for the Charioteer have been recorded on this wiki, and no movement value has been documented. Its full proficiency list is also unconfirmed beyond Bow. See Classes for the wider tier structure.
Benditz is the character shown fighting in it; see Benditz. The other published class that hits more than one enemy per attack is the Elephant Rider, and the Specialty tier it belongs to is described on Classes.
