Smithy's Secret Weapon Blueprints
Sleeping in the upstairs bed at the Heidel Smithy can randomly award a blueprint for one of the Aeserion weapons. The reward is gated behind a small questline for the smith (delivering timber to fix his tool) and appears to respect smith reputation, but the specific blueprint given is randomized on each sleep attempt. The mechanic is reported as a community discovery rather than a signposted quest reward, which is why most players never see it on a blind run.
Unlock Procedure
Visit the Heidel Smithy and speak to the blacksmith. Accept his request for timber to repair his tool.
Deliver the timber. He will hand back a small reward item that can be read from the inventory, and he will also offer to refine or upgrade an equipped shield.
Raise the smith's reputation to 100 by gifting items. This step is reported to influence whether the bed will accept the player, though no official confirmation exists.
Walk upstairs and interact with the smith's bed. The prompt is time-gated: attempts before roughly 7:30 PM in-game were refused in testing, while attempts between 7:30 PM and early evening succeeded. Sleeping at night for a full twelve hours is the intended interaction.
On a successful sleep, check the inventory for a new crafting manual. Examine it to learn a single Aeserion blueprint.
Confirmed Rewards
Reported drops from repeated bed attempts include:
Aeserion Bow (the most commonly cited first-time reward)
Other Aeserion weapons (dagger, mace, longsword, great hammer) are expected to appear in the pool but have not all been individually confirmed by the source video.
How the Mechanic Works
Each sleep appears to roll from a small loot table. In documented testing across about twenty reloads from a single save, the bed produced three distinct rewards and several sleeps that returned nothing, which suggests both a low hit rate per attempt and a limited pool. There is no confirmed save-scum seeding: reloading a save and sleeping again typically produces a different result, so the roll is not deterministic per save state.
Whether character identity matters is unconfirmed. Anecdotally, sleeping on alternate characters from the same save does not obviously change the reward pool, but the sample size is too small to draw a firm conclusion.
Relationship to the Three Brothers Cliff Route
This mechanic is a secondary, unreliable source for the same recipes unlocked by the Aeserion Gear Blueprint manual found at the Three Brothers Cliff. Players who want the full Aeserion set efficiently should still retrieve the Three Brothers Cliff manual first; the smithy bed is best used as a bonus source for whichever blueprint the manual route does not grant (for example, the bow, which is reported to be absent from the manual in some playthroughs). The giant serpent boss at Three Brothers Cliff is a third, later-game source that drops Aeserion weapons directly.
Tips
Save before interacting with the bed so unwanted rolls can be rerolled without cost.
Maximize the smith's reputation before attempting sleep. Even if reputation is not strictly required, it removes one possible gating variable.
Do not use the bed in the late morning or early afternoon; interaction is refused outside of evening hours.
Track which Aeserion recipes are already in the crafting list at the smithy before sleeping, so a new recipe is easy to spot after waking.
