Rubber
April 10, 2026 at 06:02 AM
Added Kamu seed contract method via Khaled in Vania and tree harvest mechanics (seed collection and manual cutting)

Rubber is a rare miscellaneous material in Crimson Desert. Described in-game as "a soft, highly elastic material," rubber is valued for its ability to effectively block water and lightning. It has a slightly unusual smell, and prolonged exposure to intense sunlight or fire gradually makes it softer and weaker. Rubber can primarily be found in the hot and humid rainforests bordering the Crimson Desert region.
Rubber is considered one of the harder materials to come by in the game. Unlike common gathering resources such as Timber or Iron, rubber requires players to either travel to specific tropical regions, build trust with troll scholars, or cultivate rubber trees on their farm. It is used in several advanced crafting recipes, making it a sought-after endgame material alongside Mercury and Brimstone.

There are three main ways to acquire rubber in Crimson Desert. Because rubber trees regenerate slowly and the troll gifting method involves some randomness, most players combine all available methods to build up a supply over time.
The fastest and most reliable method for obtaining rubber is through the trust system with the troll scholars (also called giants) at the Scholastone Research Institute. These large NPCs accept Thin Hide as gifts. Each gift of Thin Hide grants +10 trust. Once you reach maximum trust (100) with a troll scholar, they will periodically reward you with one of three rare endgame materials: rubber, Mercury, or Brimstone.
To max out a single troll's trust, you need 10 gifts of Thin Hide (100 trust total). There are multiple troll scholar NPCs at Scholastone, so bringing a large stock of Thin Hide (around 150 or more) lets you max out several trolls in one visit, increasing your chances of receiving rubber. Keep in mind that the reward is random; you may receive Mercury or Brimstone instead. Visiting regularly and gifting all available trolls improves your odds over time.
Thin Hide is a relatively common drop from hunting animals across Pywel and Hernand, so stockpiling it while exploring is a good habit.
Rubber trees grow naturally in the tropical and jungle-like regions of the game world, particularly in the hot and humid rainforests at the edges of the map. These trees can be identified by the visible white liquid leaking from their bark. You can also use the Force Palm Heal ability to highlight a rubber tree in gold, confirming that it can be harvested for rubber.
After harvesting a rubber tree, it takes approximately six in-game days to regenerate before it can be collected again. This long cooldown makes wild rubber tree harvesting a slow method on its own, but it serves as a useful supplement to other acquisition strategies. Check back on known rubber tree locations periodically as you travel through tropical areas.
Players who have unlocked the Greymane Camp farm through Kamu's Request can plant Rubber Tree Seeds to grow their own rubber supply. The seed is described as "a seed that looks quite odd" that will grow into a tree from which you can make rubber.
Rubber Tree Seeds can be found south of Fort Perwin in Southern Hernand, as well as in the swampy terrain of Hernand and Pailune. Once planted on the farm, the seed grows over several in-game days into a harvestable rubber tree. While cultivation takes time, it provides a renewable source of rubber right at your camp without needing to travel to remote rainforest locations.
Rubber is required as a crafting ingredient in several advanced recipes. Its unique properties of water and lightning resistance make it particularly useful for specialized tools and equipment.
The most well-known recipe requiring rubber is Olvald's Expert Logging Axe, an upgraded logging axe that significantly improves woodcutting efficiency. The recipe requires:
Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
5 | |
15 | |

Rubber is often the biggest bottleneck when crafting this axe. Ivory can be farmed from elephants and rhinos in open plains, and Sturdy Hide is available from the Hernand Tanner or from crocodiles along the Red River. Rubber, however, requires dedicated effort to gather enough.
Rubber's in-game description notes its effectiveness at blocking water and lightning, suggesting applications in gear that provides elemental resistance. As an endgame material grouped alongside Mercury and Brimstone, rubber may also be used in higher-tier equipment refinement and specialized crafting recipes that become available in later chapters of the game.
The most efficient way to secure a renewable rubber supply is through Kamu, the farm master at Greymane Camp. Kamu begins selling rubber tree seeds, wild jinseng seeds, and tarot seeds once you unlock a merchant contract through Khaled, a grosser merchant in Vania (located in the Crimson Desert region to the north).
To unlock the contract, build 100 reputation with Khaled by giving him copper pouches. The cheapest pouches work fine for this purpose. Once you hit 100 rep, Khaled offers a contract item for purchase. Buy the contract and consume it from your inventory. Kamu will then have the new seed varieties available in his shop back at camp.
Rubber trees require special attention compared to regular crops. After a rubber tree matures and you harvest the rubber from the trunk, you must also collect the seeds from the top of the tree. Rubber does not generate seeds on its own through the normal harvest process, so missing this step means losing your replanting material. After gathering both the rubber and the seeds, the tree must be manually cut down before the farm plot becomes available again for replanting. This cut-and-replant cycle is unique to tree crops (rubber and Abyss Cell trees share this behavior) and distinguishes them from standard vegetable or grain crops.
Stockpile Thin Hide early. Thin Hide drops from many common animals. Collecting it as you explore means you will have plenty to gift to troll scholars at Scholastone when you arrive there.
Visit Scholastone with a full inventory of hides. Bring at least 150 Thin Hide so you can max out multiple troll scholars in a single trip, increasing the number of reward rolls for rubber.
Mark rubber tree locations on your map. When you find a rubber tree in the wild, note its position so you can revisit it every six in-game days. Over time, these return trips add up.
Use Force Palm to identify harvestable trees. The Force Palm Heal ability highlights collectible rubber trees in gold, which helps distinguish them from regular jungle vegetation.
Plant Rubber Tree Seeds on your farm. If you have unlocked the Greymane Camp farm, planting rubber seeds provides a passive income of rubber without extra travel.
Prioritize rubber for Olvald's Logging Axe. The expert logging axe dramatically speeds up wood gathering, which feeds into many other crafting chains. Getting this upgrade early pays dividends.
