Rock Paper Scissors

Clarify recorded minigame repetition and bounty-specific routes, destinations and reward scope.
Rock Paper Scissors is one of the minigames in Crimson Desert. The recorded match rule is to earn two correct guesses against a child opponent. The City of Hernand in the Hernand region is an early location, rather than the only documented town with the game. Winning grants a random insect according to the challenge guide. Earlier notes called it free to play, described a best-of-three match and quoted a replay interval of 23 in-game hours; the repeat interval conflicts with a separate few-days account and is not settled here.

The Rock Paper Scissors minigame is found east of the Provisioner's Shop in the City of Hernand. A group of children can be seen playing in this area. To start the game, interact with the child who is standing near the group.
The minigame is marked on the map with a pin, but this pin may disappear depending on the in-game time of day. If the map marker is not visible, try advancing time by resting or completing other activities and then returning to the area later.
The challenge guide records additional play locations in Demeniss, Delesyia, Tashkalp and Varnia, plus Pailune after Chapter 7. These are recorded locations, not a claim that every child in every settlement offers the game.
Rock Paper Scissors uses the standard hand-game relationships below. The challenge guide describes a match as won after two correct guesses. The older best-of-three wording should not be read as counting tied throws against that winning target; the tie behavior described below remains the earlier rules account.
Scissors beat Paper
Rock beats Scissors
Paper beats Rock
Each round, the player selects one of the three options. The opponent (a child NPC) also makes a selection. The first player to win two rounds wins the match. If a round results in a tie (both players choose the same option), that round does not count toward either side and is replayed.
Earlier opponent-randomization and save-reload interpretation, not a newly tested AI or guaranteed-win model: The player needs to predict the opponent's choice each round. Since the child's selections are randomized, there is no guaranteed winning pattern. However, players can use the save-and-reload strategy described in the Tips section below to secure a win without relying on luck.
The recorded objective of the Mind Games challenge A Silent War is three match wins. Its listed unlock action is a Rock Paper Scissors win in Hernand. The guide allows repeating the same children on different days or finding children elsewhere. It lists a random insect per win; the match reward is separate from assuming an additional guaranteed item for completing the whole challenge category.
Winning a match of Rock Paper Scissors grants a random reward. The known possible drops are collectible items used in various crafting and collection systems:
Reward | Type |
|---|---|
Orange Barred Sulphur Butterfly | Collectible insect |

Rewards are given randomly after each victory. The pool of possible drops may include additional items beyond those listed above.
Interacting with the boy standing near the children who are playing Rock Paper Scissors grants Trust +5. Trust is a relationship stat that reflects how much the local population values and respects the player. Building Trust unlocks additional interactions, quest opportunities, and vendor stock across the Hernand region.
The repeat timer remains unresolved between earlier accounts. This page previously quoted 23 in-game hours after either a win or a loss, with the map pin returning when the timer expires. The challenge guide instead says the same children can be faced again once every few days, without providing a precise clock conversion or separating win and loss timers. Check whether the interaction is available rather than assume either a universal daily reset or an exact 23-hour rule.
Earlier notes tied the quoted 23-hour interval to in-game time and recommended resting at a camp or bed to advance it. That is retained as earlier timer advice, not a newly measured result or proof that one particular rest duration always restores the interaction.
The guide suggests saving and reloading after a loss, but the following guarantee wording is earlier advice rather than a new deterministic test: Save before playing. It is strongly recommended to manually save the game before starting a match. If the result is not favorable, the player can reload the save and try again. This is the most reliable way to guarantee a win and obtain the desired reward.
Earlier cancellation and immediate-restart workflow, not independently verified by the selected challenge guides: Leave and restart. If the first round goes poorly, the player can walk away from the minigame to cancel it without finishing. Interacting with the child again starts a fresh match from round one. This avoids needing to reload a save for minor setbacks.
Earlier time-of-day and map-marker observation: Check the time of day. The minigame's map pin disappears at certain times of day. If the marker is missing, the children may not be in position. Return at a different time or rest to advance the clock.
Combine with other Hernand activities. The City of Hernand offers several other minigames including Arm Wrestling, Duo (a card game), Shot Contest: Gun, and Weapon Duel: Spear. While waiting for the Rock Paper Scissors cooldown to expire, visit these other activities nearby.
No entry fee required. Unlike most other minigames in Hernand (which cost Copper or Silver to enter), Rock Paper Scissors is completely free to play. This makes it a risk-free way to earn collectible items.
The Hernand region hosts several other minigames beyond Rock Paper Scissors:
