Overview
Grundir is the Dean of the Scholastone Institute, a secretive academic institution located in the mountains southwest of Hernand. He oversees the Institute's research activities and serves as the primary authority figure within its walls.
Much like Alustin, Grundir has a tendency to speak in riddles and cryptic phrases. He believes that the experiments being conducted at the Institute are a necessary defense against a coming chaos, though he does not elaborate on the specifics of this threat directly.
Location
Grundir can be found at the Scholastone Institute, which is situated in a remote mountain area southwest of the City of Hernand. The Institute is accessed during the Forbidden Knowledge sub-chapter of Chapter 4: The Price of Knowledge.
Role in the Story
On the Right Path
During the quest On the Right Path (the 55th main quest), Grundir speaks with Kliff in his characteristic riddle-laden style. He explains that the experiments happening in the Institute's central plaza are a necessary defense against approaching danger. He then introduces Kliff to Octavius, a researcher whose work becomes central to the quests that follow.
Spire of the Stars
Following Octavius's disappearance during the events of Gate to the Otherworld, Grundir reports a strange phenomenon occurring at the Institute's spire. This prompts Kliff to investigate the Spire of the Stars, leading to further discoveries about the connection between the Institute and the Abyss.
Personality
Grundir is an enigmatic and measured leader. He prefers to communicate through riddles and indirect statements rather than plain speech, which can frustrate those seeking straightforward answers. Despite this cryptic manner, he genuinely believes in the importance of the Institute's work and takes his responsibilities as Dean seriously.
