Overview

Grilled Fish is one of the earliest cooking recipes available in Starsand Island. It requires only 3 Fish Fillet and can be prepared at a Campfire or Gas Stove, making it one of the simplest dishes in the game. The in-game description reads: "A simple but satisfying dish made by cooking fresh-caught fish directly over an open flame. The heat of the grill brings out the fish's natural oils and imparts a pleasant smoky char."

Grilled Fish restores 50 stamina when eaten. It does not provide any special buff, so its primary role is as a straightforward stamina recovery meal during the early game. The recipe is unlocked by completing the Apprentice Angler Trial, which is typically one of the first profession trials a new player completes. Because the ingredients are easy to gather and the recipe is available so early, Grilled Fish often serves as a player's introduction to fish-based cooking.

Recipe Details

Grilled Fish can be cooked at either a Campfire or a Gas Stove. Both stations produce the same result. The Campfire is the first cooking station most players build, so Grilled Fish is usually one of the first dishes you cook. Once you unlock the Gas Stove later on, you can switch to it for the convenience of queuing multiple recipes at once.

Where to Get the Recipe

The Grilled Fish recipe is awarded upon completing the Apprentice Angler Trial, the first tier of the Angler profession quest line. This trial is available early in the game and serves as your introduction to fishing.

Apprentice Angler Trial Steps

1. Travel to the southeast part of the island and speak to Delphin at the AquaBlue Outpost.

2. Delphin will give you a fishing rod and ask you to catch 3 fish of any type.

3. Catch 3 fish from any body of water on the island. Common catches like Clownfish, Greasyback Shrimp, or Dace all count.

4. Return to Delphin with the fish to complete the trial and receive your Apprentice Angler Certificate along with the Grilled Fish recipe.

This is one of the quickest profession trials in the game. You can complete it within your first few days on the island as long as you visit Delphin and have access to a fishing spot. The Grilled Fish recipe is not available from the Aureleaf Kitchen shop, so the Apprentice Angler Trial is the only way to learn it.

Ingredient Sourcing

Grilled Fish requires only one ingredient type: Fish Fillet. With just 3 Fish Fillet per serving, it is one of the cheapest recipes in the game to produce.

Fish Fillet

Fish Fillet is a processed cooking ingredient created by placing any caught fish into a Separator. Every fish species produces Fish Fillet regardless of rarity or type, so you can use the cheapest, most common catches for this purpose. Clownfish, Greasyback Shrimp, and Dace are all excellent choices because they are abundant and easy to catch.

If you do not have a Separator yet, you can craft one at a Worktable using 3 Stone, 3 Softwood, and 5 Fiber. The Separator blueprint is available from Zerine's General Store after you begin the Apprentice Crafter quest line. Once built, place the Separator near your cooking station for convenient ingredient processing.

To build a steady Fish Fillet supply without spending time rod fishing every day, consider setting up Fish Traps near bodies of water around your farm. Fish Traps passively catch fish overnight, providing a consistent source of raw fish to process at the Separator each morning.

Gifting

Grilled Fish is one of the most universally accepted gifts in Starsand Island. The majority of NPCs respond positively when given Grilled Fish, making it a reliable fallback gift when you are unsure of a character's specific preferences. Because the recipe is available so early and uses only Fish Fillet, it is easy to keep a small stockpile on hand for daily gifting.

While Grilled Fish is broadly liked, it is rarely a character's favorite gift. For maximum friendship gains, check each NPC's loved items in the Gift Guide and give their preferred items when possible. Grilled Fish works best as a convenient everyday gift for characters whose loved items are expensive or hard to obtain.

Profitability

Grilled Fish sells for 66 Coins at any standard shop. This is one of the lowest sell prices among cooked dishes, which is expected given how simple the recipe is. With only 3 Fish Fillet as ingredients, the profit margin depends entirely on whether the raw fish would have sold for more on its own.

In most cases, common fish like Clownfish and Greasyback Shrimp sell for relatively little when sold raw. Converting them into Fish Fillet and then into Grilled Fish squeezes out a modest amount of extra value. However, if you are looking for serious cooking profits, higher-tier recipes like Braised Fish (121 recovery, unlocked from the Intermediate Angler Trial), Sauerkraut Fish (147 recovery, purchased at Aureleaf Kitchen), or Yangzhou Fried Rice offer significantly better returns per batch.

Selling on the Merchant Ship

The Merchant Ship at Starsand Port pays double the normal selling price for all goods. Selling Grilled Fish on the ship nets 132 Coins per serving instead of the usual 66. While this doubles the profit, the absolute value is still low compared to other cooked dishes. Only sell Grilled Fish on the ship if you have surplus servings that you will not eat or gift.

Comparison with Other Fish Recipes

Grilled Fish is the simplest fish-based recipe in the game. As you progress through the Angler profession trials and unlock new recipes, you gain access to more powerful dishes that use Fish Fillet alongside additional ingredients. The table below compares all Fish Fillet recipes.

Grilled Fish has the lowest recovery and sell price of any Fish Fillet recipe, but it also requires the fewest ingredients and is the first one you unlock. Think of it as a stepping stone. Once you have access to Steamed Fish (which provides the Never Skunked fishing buff) or higher-tier dishes, you will likely phase out Grilled Fish for active use. It remains useful as a quick gift item thanks to its simple crafting requirements.

Tips

• Grilled Fish is the ideal recipe for new players who have just completed the Apprentice Angler Trial. It gives you an immediate use for the fish you catch while learning the cooking system.

• Keep a few servings of Grilled Fish in your inventory during early game exploration. The +50 stamina recovery helps sustain longer trips before you unlock higher-recovery foods.

• Stock up on Fish Fillet by processing bulk catches at the Separator. Use common fish like Clownfish or Greasyback Shrimp for Fillet production and save rare catches for selling or displaying in your Aquarium.

• Because Grilled Fish is broadly liked by most NPCs, it works well as a daily gift for building friendships when you do not have a character's specific favorite items on hand.

• Set up Fish Traps early in the game. The passive fish they catch each night can be processed into Fish Fillet the next morning, giving you a hands-off supply chain for Grilled Fish without needing to rod fish every day.

• Once you unlock Steamed Fish from the Junior Angler Trial, you may want to transition your Fish Fillet supply toward that recipe instead. Steamed Fish costs one extra Fish Fillet plus 2 Leek but restores more stamina and grants the Never Skunked fishing buff.

• If you find yourself with surplus Grilled Fish, sell it on the Merchant Ship on Monday for 132 Coins instead of the usual 66 at regular shops.
