Cauldron Locations

Add Hernand cauldron quick reference, refined pill Improvise teach-yourself path, cauldron trip checklist
Cauldrons are Alchemy crafting stations scattered throughout the world of Pywel in Crimson Desert. They allow you to brew potions, elixirs, and other alchemical consumables using gathered reagents, catalysts, and containers. Unlike the Blacksmith, alchemy supports field crafting: once you know where a cauldron is, you can brew on the go without returning to camp.
Interacting with any cauldron for the first time permanently marks its location on your map, making it easy to return later. Cauldrons are distinct from the Alchemy Lab at the Greymane Camp, which offers exclusive recipes that cannot be made at a field cauldron.
Location | Region | How to Find | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Hernand (North) | North of Hernand City, west of Three Saints Falls. Squeeze through a narrow crack in the cliff face to enter the cave. | Contains the Palmar Pill recipe. A Witch NPC is also nearby. | |
Hernand Town East | Hernand City | Vacant building on the east side of Hernand Town. Look for a dangling sign with a mortar and pestle symbol. | One of the most accessible early-game cauldrons |
Greymane Camp Alchemy Lab | Greymane Camp | Unlocked through the "Restore the Greymane Camp" main story quest in Chapter 3. Requires Wood from Logging and Ore from Mining to construct. | Permanent crafting station at camp with exclusive recipes |
Additional cauldrons exist throughout the world. When you discover a new one, it is automatically added to your map. Check caves, ruins, and buildings with alchemical signage (mortar and pestle symbols) as you explore each region.
There are important differences between field cauldrons and the Greymane Camp Alchemy Lab:
Feature | Field Cauldrons | |
|---|---|---|
Availability | Found throughout the world; must be discovered | Built at camp during Chapter 3 |
Standard alchemy recipes | Standard recipes plus exclusive camp-only formulas | |
Construction Cost | None (free to use once found) | Requires Wood and Ore from Hernand |
Convenience | Scattered; good for field crafting | Always at your home base |
Every alchemy recipe uses a three-part structure: a Reagent (the core ingredient such as plants, bugs, or fungi), a Catalyst (the binding agent such as iron ore, spider webs, or sturdy hide), and a Container (empty bottles purchased from Provisioners in town). The quality of your catalyst affects the success rate and potency of the result.
Key items you can craft at cauldrons include:
Palmar Pills (self-revival consumable)
Haiden's Lesser Elixir (Spirit conservation)
Attack Speed Potions (+30% attack speed for 60 seconds)
Healing potions and status-curing remedies
Elemental resistance potions
For a complete list of recipes, see All Alchemy Recipes and Alchemy Materials.
At any cauldron, you can select the Improvise option to combine ingredients freely without needing a recipe scroll. If the combination produces a valid result and you successfully craft it three times, the recipe is permanently added to your collection. This is a useful way to discover new recipes without hunting down recipe scrolls.
Explore caves thoroughly. Many cauldrons are hidden inside caves that require squeezing through narrow passages or solving minor environmental puzzles to access.
Look for mortar and pestle signs. Buildings with alchemy stations often have distinctive signage on or near their entrance.
Check near Witch NPCs. Witches are frequently found near cauldrons. If you see a Witch on your map, a cauldron is likely nearby.
Mark cauldrons on your map. Once interacted with, cauldrons appear permanently on the world map, so touch every one you find even if you do not need to craft immediately.
In addition to the field cauldrons found throughout the world, you can purchase a personal Alchemy Cauldron to place inside your house at the Greymane Camp. The cauldron is sold by the furniture merchant at the Timberham Sawmill, located southwest of Hernand City. It costs approximately 48 Silver, which is a significant early-game investment but pays for itself quickly.
Once purchased, open the housing placement mode in your house and position the cauldron wherever you like. It functions identically to field cauldrons, letting you brew potions, elixirs, and craft alchemy items at any time without traveling to a town. This is especially useful for crafting Gold Bars from the Alchemy Formula, as it eliminates the need to find a cauldron in the wild each time.
For most early and mid-campaign players, the cauldron in Hernand town is the single most useful stop. It is reachable from every chapter of the campaign, sits next to a fast-travel marker, and is close to the well north of town that supplies water for most alchemy recipes.
The cauldron accepts any valid recipe and also accepts free-form inputs through the Improvise menu, which is the foundation of the refined pill teach-yourself trick.
The Refined Palmar Pill formula drops from a Chapter 9 questline, but players can teach themselves the recipe at any cauldron long before that. The process is straightforward:
Walk up to any cauldron (the Hernand one is the easiest example).
Press the Improvise button to enter free-form crafting.
Insert one Palmar Leaf, one Palmar Beetle, one substitute ingredient (longhorn, Ginseng, or Bear's Gallbladder), and one water.
Trigger the craft. The first successful Improvise pass yields a Refined Palmar Pill and fills the recipe knowledge bar by roughly 25 to 30 percent.
Repeat the same Improvise input three to four more times. Once the knowledge bar fills, the game prints "Refined Palmar Pill knowledge acquired" and the recipe is permanently unlocked under the Special Items tab of every cauldron.
After unlocking, the recipe switches from Improvise crafting to bulk crafting through the regular cauldron menu, which is much faster for stockpiling a full stack of 100 refined pills before a boss run.
Before sitting down at a cauldron for a long crafting session, the community usually packs the following four items per planned refined pill:
One Palmar Leaf (gathered from the three DPJ leaf patches).
One Palmar Beetle (shares the same patches as leaves).
One substitute ingredient: longhorn from the Young White-Striped Longhorn deer line, Ginseng, or Bear's Gallbladder.
One water, bought from any grocery vendor in stacks of ten or drawn five at a time from the well north of Hernand near the Hills of No Return.
