When planted, these seeds grow into an Abyss Tree from which Abyss Cells can be harvested. Abyss Cells are key materials tied to the game's progression system.
There are several ways to acquire this seed in Crimson Desert:
Extract from fruit: If you have the corresponding fruit in your inventory, hold the use button on it (Inspect, then Extract Seed) to obtain plantable seeds.
Purchase from Kamu: Buy seeds directly from Kamu, the seed vendor at the Greymane Camp. Kamu's inventory expands as you activate seed supply contracts.
Seed supply contracts: Reach 100 trust with town grocers to unlock seed supply contracts that expand Kamu's available seed selection at the Greymane Camp.
Abyssal Seeds are created by using an Abyss Cell directly from your inventory (select the cell and choose "Use"). This converts the cell into a plantable seed. To unlock the farm at Greymane Camp where seeds can be planted, you must complete the Embers of Return and Gathered Will quest lines, which recruit Kamu to the camp. Kamu manages the farm and enables planting.
To plant this seed, walk up to an open land parcel on your farm at the Greymane Camp and select Plant Seed from the interaction menu. The seed must be explicitly equipped from your inventory before planting. Position yourself next to a planting hole and hold the interaction button until the planting animation completes.
Trees and crops take approximately three in-game days to fully grow. You cannot uproot a growing crop early or plant over an existing one. After harvesting, chop the plant down before planting a new seed in that plot.
Abyss Cells are not cooking ingredients. They are special materials used for character upgrades and high-tier crafting.
The yield from Abyss Trees depends heavily on whether you apply fertilizer before planting.
Aspect | Detail |
|---|---|
Growth Time | Approximately 3 in-game days |
Maximum Yield | 5 Abyss Cells per tree (with fertilizer) |
Yield Without Fertilizer | 1 Abyss Cell per tree |
Max Plots | 8 farm plots at Greymane Camp |
Max Yield per Cycle | 40 Abyss Cells (8 plots x 5 cells each) |
Fertilizer Source | Unlimited fertilizer from completing "Queen of Spiders" and "Restore Factory" quests in Hernand |
Growth Accelerator | Field Sprayer (crafted with Rubber; breaks after ~100 uses) |
Always apply fertilizer before planting. Without it, each tree only yields 1 Abyss Cell instead of 5, making the seed conversion a net loss.
The unlimited fertilizer is obtained from the "Queen of Spiders" and "Restore Factory" quests in Hernand. Complete these quests as early as possible to maximize your farming output.
The Field Sprayer speeds up growth but has limited durability (~100 uses). The Rubber needed to craft it comes from rainforest areas (Chapter 8+) or campmate quest rewards.
Farming Abyss Cells through seeds is more efficient than hunting creatures once you have the fertilizer, especially in the mid to late game when demand for Abyss Cells increases sharply.
With 8 plots running fertilized Abyss Trees, you can generate 40 Abyss Cells every 3 in-game days, which is enough to sustain active Abyss Gear synthesis and Health upgrades.
The fertilizer sprayer is the key tool for maximizing yield. Spray each planted tree once per day. When the fertilizer hits the plant correctly, it turns a darker shade of brown, confirming that the application registered. Do not spray more than once per day per plant, as additional sprays have no effect. A single correct spray per day for the entire growth period is all that is needed to reach the maximum yield of 5 Abyss Cells per tree.
The field sprayer (water sprayer) serves a different purpose from the fertilizer sprayer. It speeds up plant growth but does not increase the yield. The field sprayer also regenerates its water supply faster than the fertilizer sprayer regenerates its charges, so you can water more frequently. Use the field sprayer alongside the fertilizer sprayer: fertilize for yield, water for speed.
Plant all seeds at dawn when the day begins.
Spray each plant once with the fertilizer sprayer. Verify each plant turns darker brown.
Water all plants with the field sprayer to accelerate growth.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 at the start of each new in-game day for approximately 3 days.
Once trees are fully grown, harvest by cutting each tree down. Pick up the dropped Abyss Cells from the ground.
Immediately convert some harvested cells into new Abyssal Seeds and replant for an infinite farming loop.
Trees do not regrow after picking. You must chop them down and replant from scratch each cycle.
Without fertilizer, each tree yields only 1 Abyss Cell, which is the same as the 1 cell you used to create the seed. This means unfertilized planting produces no net gain.
With fertilizer, each tree yields 5 Abyss Cells, giving you a net gain of 4 cells per seed planted (after subtracting the 1 cell used to create the seed).
The growth period is approximately one in-game week (about 3 real-time days of play with normal pacing).
