The Abyssal Dragon Armor (also called the Abyssal Fusion Dragon Armor or Mecha Dragon Armor) is a late-game crafted equipment piece in Crimson Desert that outfits Blackstar, the dragon mount unlocked during Chapter 11, with a suit of mechanized plating. When equipped, the armor transforms Blackstar's appearance into an imposing mecha-inspired creature and significantly increases the dragon's damage resistance during aerial and ground combat encounters.
Crafting the Abyssal Dragon Armor requires completing multiple late-game tasks across different regions of Pywel, including defeating Abyss creatures, gathering rare materials from Delesyia, and using the specialized forge at Kilnden Workshop in Hernand. The armor is one of the most involved crafting projects in the game, but the result is a visually striking and mechanically powerful upgrade for your dragon companion.
Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
Story Progress | Complete Chapter 11 (unlocks Blackstar) |
Quest | Flight: Wings of Iron (Hernand Faction Quest from the Witches) |
Crafting Location | Grimnir's Kuku Shop, Kilnden Workshop, Hernand |
Character Level | Late-game recommended |
Before you can craft the Abyssal Dragon Armor, you must first unlock Blackstar by completing Chapter 11 of the main story. After that, a new Witch quest called Flight: Wings of Iron becomes available from the Hernand faction questline. This quest directs you to Kilnden Workshop in Hernand, the same location where you obtained the Kuku Pot earlier in Chapter 4.
The Abyssal Dragon Armor is assembled in two stages. First, you craft a Small Kuku A.T.A.G. as an intermediate component. Then you combine that with several rare materials to produce the final armor.
Material | Quantity | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
Kuku Pot | 1 | Obtained during Chapter 4 at Kilnden Workshop; additional pots via Greymane dispatch missions |
1 | Dropped by Abyss creatures throughout Pywel | |
5 | Dropped by mechanical enemies in Delesyia (golems, robot mosquitoes, contraptions) | |
5 | Dropped by mechanical enemies in Delesyia |
The blueprint for the Small Kuku A.T.A.G. is obtained from Marek at the Zargan Tankworks, which is located west of Gorthak in Delesyia. You must speak with Marek to learn the crafting recipe before you can assemble the component.
If you need additional Kuku Pots beyond the one obtained in Chapter 4, you can send your Greymane comrades on a dispatch mission to Kilnden Workshop. Each dispatch expedition costs 15 armaments, 105 stone, 75 timber, 60 food, and 2,500 money.
Material | Quantity | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
Small Kuku A.T.A.G. | 1 | Crafted (see Stage 1 above) |
1 | Automatically received after defeating the Golden Star boss in Chapter 11 | |
1 | Found at the Serpent Shrine in Dewhaven (southwest Delesyia) | |
Power Core: Ore of Resipiscence | 1 | Dropped by Abyss creatures such as Runewalkers and Stone Golem variants |
This is automatically added to your inventory when you complete the Chapter 11 main quest boss fight against the Golden Star. This is the same fight that unlocks Blackstar as your dragon mount, so you will already have this component by the time you begin the crafting process.
Travel to Delesyia and head to the Serpent Shrine in Dewhaven, which is the southwest island of the Delesyia archipelago. At the Serpent Shrine, you will find Aeserion's Scales on the ground. Pick them up using Axiom Force (L3) and seal them in the Kuku Pot to secure the material for transport.
This crafting material drops from Abyss creatures, specifically Runewalkers and Stone Golem variants found throughout Pywel. These enemies appear in abyss-corrupted zones and near Abyss Nexus fast travel points. Farming abyss enemies in areas with high creature density, such as around Sage's Peak or Drake's Fall Castle, can speed up the drop.
Both materials are regular drops from mechanical enemies found throughout Delesyia. Golems, robot mosquitoes, and other mechanical contraptions all have a chance to drop Cogwheels and Small Batteries. Farming any area with a high density of these enemies will yield the required quantities relatively quickly.
Obtain the Small Kuku A.T.A.G. blueprint from Marek at Zargan Tankworks (west of Gorthak, Delesyia).
Gather the Stage 1 materials: 1 Kuku Pot, 1 Abyss Cell, 5 Cogwheels, 5 Small Batteries.
Craft the Small Kuku A.T.A.G. at any appropriate crafting station.
Gather the Stage 2 materials: Golden Star's Component, Aeserion's Scale, and Power Core: Ore of Resipiscence.
Travel to Kilnden Workshop in Hernand.
Speak with Grimnir near the main furnace.
Select the Abyssal Dragon Armor crafting option and confirm.
Once crafted and equipped, the Abyssal Dragon Armor provides Blackstar with a substantial defensive boost, allowing the dragon to absorb significantly more damage during combat. The armor's mecha-inspired design is purely visual and does not alter Blackstar's flight controls or movement speed.
The armor's protection is especially valuable during aerial combat encounters against late-game bosses and during dragon-mounted traversal through hostile regions where ground-based enemies can target Blackstar with ranged attacks.
After crafting the Abyssal Dragon Armor, travel to the Nest of Valor, an Abyss island located above the desert. Upon arrival, a cutscene triggers where the armor wraps around Blackstar in a dramatic transformation sequence. The mechanized plating fuses permanently to the dragon's body, giving Blackstar an imposing mecha-inspired appearance that persists for the rest of the game.
The visual transformation is significant: Blackstar's scales become covered in layered metal plating with glowing energy lines running across the armor. The wing membranes gain reinforced struts, and the head receives a helmet-like visor. Despite the heavy appearance, the armor does not alter Blackstar's flight speed or aerial maneuverability.
The Abyssal Dragon Armor's defensive boost addresses one of the main challenges of late-game aerial combat. Without the armor, Blackstar can be brought down relatively quickly by concentrated ranged fire from ground enemies or during aerial boss encounters. The increased damage resistance allows for more aggressive flying, giving players extra time to line up attack runs and making dragon-mounted traversal through hostile regions considerably safer.
The armor is particularly valuable during post-Chapter 11 content where multiple Abyss-corrupted regions become accessible. Enemy density and damage output increase significantly in these areas, and the protection from the Abyssal Dragon Armor makes dragon travel through Delesyia's more dangerous zones much more manageable.
You need to have completed Chapter 11 before this becomes available. Do not worry about collecting materials until after you have unlocked Blackstar.
The Greymane dispatch mission for extra Kuku Pots requires substantial resources. Plan your camp's resource stockpiles accordingly before sending the dispatch.
Cogwheels and Small Batteries stack quickly if you spend time exploring Delesyia's mechanical enemy zones. Clear a few camps and you should have more than enough.
The Power Core: Ore of Resipiscence can be a rarer drop. Focus on areas with high-level Abyss creatures for better drop rates.
This is one of the most visually impactful upgrades in the game. The mecha dragon appearance is a significant change from Blackstar's default look.
