Reshanta is the void between the two halves of Atreia, and the only place the two factions meet. Because the global service runs faction-separated servers, that is literal: Elyos and Asmodian players do not share an open world, they share Reshanta. It is also called the Abyss, and the two names are used interchangeably.
This page covers the place. PvP and the Abyss covers the rules and the reward structures.
The Layers
Reshanta is not one map. It is a stack of contested fields with different rules, and the flight rules differ between them, which is the point: the layer you are in decides whether the fight is three-dimensional.
Layer | Flight | Artifacts | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Chaotic Lower Reshanta | Full flight | Yes | The open aerial battlefield, and the layer that carries the franchise's identity |
Chaotic Middle Reshanta | Restricted; gliding, walking or running | Yes | Added in Season 3. Ground positioning and chokepoint control matter more here. An updraft and a raised fall-death height were added to it in April 2026. |
Chaotic Upper Reshanta | Reduced flight-power cost inside the zone | No | Added July 1, 2026 with Chapter 1. Item level and Combat Power are capped, and there are no bosses. |
There is also an Abyss Corridor instance and a scheduled Abyss Rift Zone event map that sit alongside the open layers.
Chaotic Upper Reshanta
The newest layer is the odd one out, and it is worth understanding before you overshoot it. Entry is capped rather than gated: characters above roughly item level 4,300 or roughly 400,000 Combat Power cannot come in, and a character that crosses the ceiling during a session is removed from the field and given a time penalty. The layer carries no bosses and no Artifacts, so there is nothing in it to farm at the top end.
The design intent is a bracket rather than a progression step: somewhere newer characters can fight the faction war without meeting fully geared opponents. See Item Level and Combat Power.
Artifacts
Artifacts are the territorial objectives of the lower and middle layers. Holding one gives the controlling faction a standing benefit, post-conquest bosses spawn after each flip, and the faction that holds the ground when the boss dies takes the reward.
Artifact standings and the Abyss Corridor reset on the server rematch cycle, so a faction that dominates at the end of one period does not open the next one already holding everything.
Getting In
Abyss access runs on a weekly time budget rather than an entry count, and contribution accrues in real time while you are fighting. From July 1, 2026 the Korean and Taiwanese build moved Abyss rewards from a server-wide contribution pool to per-class ranking.
Artifacts and the Abyss Corridor
Artifact conquest is the closest thing AION 2 has to a fortress siege, and it exists in the lower and middle layers only. A faction that loses every Artifact gets an Abyss Corridor, a come-back instance that opens for the losing side, and Abyss Points earned in it sit outside the daily PvE cap.
Both Artifact control and Corridor state reset when servers rematch, which happens on a cycle rather than on a schedule players set.
Access and Capacity
Rule | Detail on the Korean and Taiwanese build |
|---|---|
Middle layer time budget | Seven hours a week, rechargeable an hour at a time with a consumable |
Population caps | Lower and middle layer entry caps have been reduced for stability; the capped surface layer holds 300 per faction and 600 in total |
Rank bypass | Players above a set Abyss rank can always enter regardless of the population cap |
Flight | The chaotic middle layer does not permit flight at all |
Naming Note
NCsoft's own English material uses Reshanta, and names the layers Middle Reshanta and Chaotic Upper Reshanta. The Korean client does not use that word: it calls the region 에레슈란타, which transliterates as Ereshranta, and names the layers 하층 (lower), 중층 (middle) and 표층 (surface). The English rendering of 표층 in NCsoft's own press is Upper.
Both are correct in their own language, and this is not franchise bleed: Reshanta is NCsoft's published English name for AION 2's abyss, not an import from the first game. Translated Korean coverage adds further renderings including Ereshulanta and Ereshkigal variants. Reshanta is the form used on this wiki, and it should not be "corrected" to Ereshranta.
