Hero Quests are the AION 2 main story line. Each faction plays its own chain of episodes, and that chain is what carries a character from the prologue through the home territory of Verteron or Altgard. NCsoft's global service notices call them Hero Quests, and the in-game quest journal files them under the Story type.
The chain is also a gate. On the Korean and Taiwanese build, finishing the hero quest line in Verteron or Altgard spawns the spatial transfer portal to Eltnen or Morheim, the territories added by Chapter 1. Lands of Sand and Snow, and the portal additionally checks level, item level and combat power.
Hero Quests are live on the global service. The first maintenance after Advance Access opened, on September 30, 2026 at 23:00 PDT, fixed a bottleneck when interacting with quest objects in Elyos Hero Quests in Northern Tolbas Forest, Eastern Tolbas Forest and Altamia Highland, and in Asmodian Hero Quests in Basfelt Ruins, Purifying Forest, Fafnite Deposit and Impetusium Square.
Episode names, level bands and the places each episode sends you are taken from the game's own quest data as of September 18, 2026. The English names have not all appeared in an NCsoft announcement yet, so treat them as provisional.

A recurring cast carries each side. Nania, Caelid, Phernos, Luteros and Dymones give most of the Elyos episode quests; Nemon, Ulgorn, Menrik, Hadala and Urd do the same for the Asmodians. Both chains reach a quest named Empyrean Monolith at level 16, which introduces the Monoliths and Empyrean Traces system, and both close their level 45 episode by sending the character to the Abyss Base.
A separate Ascension chain runs alongside the episodes for both factions. Every step is given by Asahr, at the Dream Crossroad.

The quest journal sorts the rest of the game's quests into further types. The counts below cover both factions in the game data dated September 18, 2026, which holds 1,314 quests in total.

Duty quests have been loosened over time on the Korean build. The number that can be held at once rose from 5 to 10 in January 2026 and to 20 in April 2026, and from the August 12, 2026 update the duty board shows more quests for the territory that suits the character's level.
The episode list reflects the game data as of September 18, 2026. Both chains stop at a level 46 holding step; the same data also holds a level 51 holding step for each faction (In Pursuit of Light for the Elyos, Master of the Fragments for the Asmodians) with no episode quests listed in between. Chapter 1 added new stories and quests for Eltnen and Morheim on the Korean and Taiwanese build; the step-by-step chain for those territories is not covered on this page yet. See Story and Lore for the setting the episodes play out in.
