Rope is a basic crafting material in Windrose made by processing Plant Fiber at the Workbench. It is Uncommon rarity, used in backpack crafting, tool recipes, and ruin-descent mechanics.

Torn Sailcloth Bag. The first backpack tier uses 2 Coarse Fabric and 1 Rope.
Shovel. Crafting a Shovel requires 3 Copper Ingots and 10 Wood at the Workbench. The shovel is the main tool for digging up Buried Treasure.
Other early tools. Rope is also a precursor in early fishing and ship-rigging recipes, layered with Wood and Nails as structural material.
Ruin descent. Some Ancient Ruins have vertical entry shafts that require a Rope to descend safely; this is the canonical way to reach a room of Tumbaga Ingots on certain ruin layouts.
Ship-rigging repairs. Some Shipwright's Workshop recipes layer Rope on top of Wood and Nails as structural material.
Both Rope and Coarse Fabric are crafted from 3 Plant Fiber at the same station, which makes Plant Fiber the single bottleneck for early-game crafting. Most players alternate production: a full Plant Fiber loop is typically processed into 5 to 8 units of each, depending on which upcoming recipe is the priority. If you are rushing the Torn Sailcloth Bag, craft more Coarse Fabric; if you are rushing the Shovel for buried-treasure hunting, craft more Rope.
Because Rope and Coarse Fabric both compete for Plant Fiber, it pays to plan which one you actually need next. The three things most players want Rope for early are below.
Goal | Why Rope Matters |
|---|---|
First backpack tier; 1 Rope plus 2 Coarse Fabric. More inventory space early. | |
Unlocks digging for Buried Treasure. | |
A renewable food source; needs 3 Rope. |
