Overview

Dueling Greatsword is a Rare / Epic greatsword-class melee weapon in Windrose. A long, straight greatsword, more akin to a ceremonial weapon, yet its blade is sharpened and deadly. The captains of the Old World used such swords to defend their beliefs.

Greatswords are two-handed Slash weapons that scale with Agility; holding both hands locks out off-hand pistols in exchange for wider arcs and heavier per-swing damage. See Greatswords for the full class profile.

Effects

Rare and Epic variants share a base effect. Ascending the Rare to Epic at the Weaponsmith Workshop preserves the Rare effect and stacks an additional bonus on top.

Craft at the Weaponsmith Workshop (Level 1). Base recipe: Copper Ingot x10, Rough Hide x2.

Ascension to Epic

Ascending the Rare variant at the Weaponsmith Workshop converts it into the Epic variant and unlocks the Epic bonus line. Ingredients: Dueling Greatsword x1, Tumbaga Ingot x9. How to Obtain

• Dropped from Blackbeard lieutenant chests on larger pirate camps.

• Found in Old World captain caches throughout the Foothills and Swamps biomes.

This weapon rolls from the shared Pirate Chest Loot Pool at a 20% per-chest chance across 13 chest spawns (Blackbeard Crew, Buccaneers', Decrepit, Old Skeleton, Smugglers', and Thomas Richards' chests). See that article for the full chest list and locations.

Tactical Usage

The greatsword counterpart to the Dueling Saber. Retaliation stacks on Perfect Block multiplicatively with talent melee-damage bonuses, and the Epic tier's 10% Health refund gives the build its own sustain.

Watch for stamina drops. Greatsword heavy attacks cost more than saber heavies, so manage combos around dodges and weave in light attacks to avoid running out of stamina during extended engagements.

Talent Synergies

Agility-scaling weapons pull from the Fencer branch of the Talent System. Relevant picks include talents that boost Slash damage, Critical Hit Chance for light attacks, Perfect Block window width, and Retaliation stack duration. Agility builds commonly pair with the Flibustier armor set (+15% one-handed damage on the 4-piece bonus) for sabers or with two-handed damage talents for greatswords.
