Overview
Phantom Edges are secondary sub-weapons that complement Soul's primary blade weapons. Activated via R2, they layer ranged attacks, crowd control, or heavy single-hit damage onto the core combat system. Players can equip two Phantom Edges at a time and switch between them with Right D-Pad. The game features more than 20 unique Phantom Edges, ranging from cannons to lances, axes to hammers. Combined with 8+ primary weapon types, there are more than 30 weapons total.
How they work
Pressing R2 mid-combo fires the active Phantom Edge without breaking the attack chain. Some Phantom Edges support charged attacks via held R2 presses. Each Phantom Edge has a distinct feel and use case, so the choice of which two to equip is a meaningful tactical decision that shapes the player's combat style.
Confirmed Phantom Edges
Night Owl
A teak longbow with owl-feather arrows. Holding R2 charges the shot for increased damage. Night Owl is the primary ranged Phantom Edge, useful for picking off enemies from a distance before closing in for melee.
Man-Cutter
An axe with charged R2 swings. Can launch full-charge attacks out of a dodge or mid-run. Spending 2 Sha-Chi Essence grants an instant full-charge, removing the wind-up. Man-Cutter is the burst-damage option for players who want a single heavy hit.
Flaming Mane
A flamethrower that spews waves of fire. It fills a Burning meter on hit; when the meter fills, it triggers Ignition for sustained damage over time. Flaming Mane is the crowd-control and sustained-damage option, effective against groups of weaker enemies.
Ink Cut
A medium-range combo weapon activated via repeated R2 taps. Deals bonus damage and stuns against certain enemy types. Ink Cut extends the player's effective range without committing to a fully ranged playstyle.
Bashpole
A sledgehammer that creates ground-slam shockwaves. Aerial R2 performs a dive-bomb attack. Bashpole can also break through weakened floors, opening hidden areas in the map. This makes it both a combat tool and an exploration tool.
Tiger Hand Cannon
A cannon used mid-combo to blast enemies with a large area-of-effect explosion. The Tiger Hand Cannon is the most dramatic Phantom Edge, designed for flashy kills in group encounters.
Savage Axe
An axe variant revealed in newer trailers. Details on its unique properties are limited in pre-release materials.
Exploration uses
Some Phantom Edges acquired from boss defeats can be used outside of combat to break open paths or access optional collectibles. This item-gating progression, similar to a Zelda-style approach, means that returning to earlier areas with new Phantom Edges can reveal hidden routes and rewards.
