Detailed beekeeping system article
Beekeeping is a colony-management mini-game in Outbound, funded as a Kickstarter stretch goal. Players establish and tend beehives that produce honey over time. The system adds a light management layer to the game's suite of cozy activities.
Beehives are crafted from resources and placed near the camper van or at a campsite. Hive placement matters — proximity to flowering plants and favorable weather conditions improves honey production rates. Different biomes offer different floral environments, affecting the quality and type of honey produced.
Maintaining a healthy bee colony requires periodic attention. Players monitor colony health, ensure adequate food sources nearby, and protect against environmental stresses. A well-managed colony produces honey steadily, while a neglected one may decline in productivity.
Honey serves multiple purposes in Outbound:
Cooking Ingredient — Used in meal recipes for dishes with enhanced restoration effects
Crafting Material — Certain crafting recipes use honey as a binding or finishing component
Trade/Barter — A valuable commodity for in-game exchange
