The Ranger is the wilderness veteran of the roster: proficient with a bow and with dual-wielded blades, at its strongest in outdoor zones, and named by the developers alongside the Monk as a damage-centric class when they set the Fighter's damage benchmark. The official archetype phrase is Wilderness Veteran.
Field | Detail |
|---|---|
Archetype | Wilderness Veteran |
Roles | Melee and Ranged DPS, Utility |
Playable races | |
Armor and weapons | Chain armor, a bow, and dual-wielded blades. Earlier class documentation, written before the 2026 rework began, describes Rangers as wearing chain armor with access to a wide array of weaponry. |
Rework status | No detailed rework published as of September 16 2026. The class page describes intended direction only |
Identity and role
The framing the team uses to separate the Ranger from the Druid is worth quoting in substance, because it explains why the class does not read as a caster. A Ranger's skills have been honed by a lifetime spent living off the land, not by channeling nature as a magical force the way a Druid does. What seems like magic to others is accumulated fieldcraft.
Capability | Detail |
|---|---|
Weapons | Proficient with a bow and with dual-wielded blades. Along with the Archer, the Ranger is one of only two classes that can use ranged auto-attack. |
Off-tanking | Can off-tank, with limited aggro control. |
Tracking | Can track nearby creatures. |
Snares | Described as the master of snares and movement impairment effects. |
Travel | Travel and escape abilities that benefit the party outdoors. See Travel. |
Foraging | Can draw food and unique supplies from the natural environment. |
Campfires | Can enhance campfires to provide a suite of beneficial rest effects for the group. |
Remedies | Out-of-combat healing and curing through natural remedies. |
Outdoors | Stated plainly as strongest in outdoor zones. |
The campfire point connects to a real system rather than flavour. A campfire placed with the Survival skill and eight pieces of wood puts the group into the Rested state, which grants a 15 percent bonus to experience gained. A class that improves campfires is improving that. See Experience and Leveling and Tradeskills.
Playable races
The Ranger is open to Dwarf, Goblin, Halfling, Human, Ogre and Wood Elf.
Every race on that list is in the set playable when the game enters Early Access on October 1 2026.
What is changing
As of September 16 2026 no detailed ability rework has been published for the Ranger. It is one of five classes without one, alongside the Bard, Enchanter, Necromancer and Shadow Knight. The class page describes intended direction, so the abilities below are stated plans rather than things that exist on the beta servers.
Direction | Stated intent |
|---|---|
Away from druidic inspiration | The class is moving away from being an armed Druid and toward fieldcraft. |
Campfire enhancement | Named as a new addition rather than an existing ability. |
Natural remedy healing | Also named as a new addition. |
Less shared Druid magic | Spells shared with the Druid are being reduced, which the published Druid rework confirms from the other side. |
Less generic magical utility | Generic magical and elemental-themed utility is being cut back. |
The Druid rework, which has been published, states that the Druid is cutting the spells it shared with the Ranger. That is the same separation seen from the caster side, and it is the strongest available evidence that the Ranger change is real work in progress rather than a statement of intent alone.
Notes for players
The Ranger is not one of the seven true caster classes, so it does not receive cantrips and does not retain a memorised spell through death. See Death Penalty.
Its value in a group is the combination of damage in both ranges, snares, tracking and outdoor movement. In a game where zones are shared and connected by zone lines rather than by fast travel, a class that makes the party move faster outdoors is doing something other classes cannot. See Classes, Combat, Grouping and Gameplay.
