Initial Nighthawks reference covering mission, membership, and player relationship
The Nighthawks (黑夜守护者) are the principal supernatural law-enforcement body in Lord of Mysteries. They are a Beyonder operative arm under the Church of the Evernight Goddess (one of the Seven Orthodox Churches) and operate covertly in the major cities of the Loen Kingdom, including Tingen and Backlund. The faction is one of the player's earliest reputation tracks in the campaign and a primary employer of the player's Beyonder character.
The Nighthawks investigate and contain rogue Beyonders, contained anomalies, illegal Beyonder commerce, and supernatural crimes. They handle cases that ordinary law enforcement cannot: cult suppression, monster containment, advancement-ritual violations, smuggled artifact recovery, and high-Sequence Beyonder threats. They also coordinate cross-Church operations when a case touches multiple deity domains.
Operational doctrine emphasises stealth and discretion. Beyonders working under the Nighthawks rarely identify as such in public; they pose as security professionals, scholars, or occult dealers. The Nighthawks' covert public face is the Blackthorn Security Company, a private security firm that fronts much of their day-to-day operational footprint.
Most Nighthawk operatives belong to the Darkness-themed Pathway groups (Nightwatcher and related). Other Pathways are admitted through specific charter exemptions: an Seer Beyonder may join as a divination specialist; an Apprentice may join as a research-and-archives officer; a Spectator may join as an interrogation and surveillance specialist.
Rank structure runs from probationary cadets (Sequence 9 fresh recruits) through Officers (Sequence 7-8), Captains (Sequence 6-5), and senior leadership (Sequence 4 and below). The Tingen Nighthawks chapter is led by a senior captain reporting to the Backlund regional command at Saint Selena Cathedral.
The player can join the Nighthawks as a contracted operative through an introductory campaign quest in Tingen. Joining grants:
Reputation track: contributing to investigation cases and clearing dungeons earns Nighthawk reputation, which unlocks tier-gated cosmetics, gear, and private vendors.
Quest unlocks: faction-specific story lines that complement the main campaign and surface dedicated Acting Method training opportunities.
Brewing access: a brewing chamber in the Tingen Blackthorn Security office that lowers the failure rate on early-Sequence potion brewing.
Group bonuses: in dungeons and guild runs, Nighthawk-affiliated party members carry a small reputation-driven sanity-cost reduction in Beyonder-themed encounters.
The Tingen Nighthawks operate from a discreet headquarters under the Hill of the Sun in central Tingen, with its public-facing front in the Golden Indus Borough as the Blackthorn Security Company. The Tingen division holds operational primacy in the city's North, West, and Golden Indus boroughs.
The introductory campaign in the Crimson Test sees the player induct into the Nighthawks during the first major story beat. The introductory captain figure is voiced and delivers most of the player's tutorial-and-faction context for the first arc.
The Backlund Nighthawks command operates from Saint Selena Cathedral and is the largest single Nighthawk contingent in the Loen Kingdom. Nighthawk content in Backlund extends into mid-tier raid encounters and faction-vs-faction PvP scenarios as part of the long-term endgame; this content is gated behind the Crimson Test and unlocks during live patches.
