Initial article for the Journalist Career added in v0.8.0 (April 29, 2026)
The Journalist Career is one of six new active careers shipped in the v0.8.0 update on April 29, 2026. Journalists work at newsroom desks, interviewing townspeople and publishing articles about city events. The career is available in Dowon and Bliss Bay.
As with the other v0.8.0 careers, hiring uses the interview-then-impress flow.
Open the Smartphone (P) and tap the Career app.
Filter by Dowon or Bliss Bay listings and select Journalist.
Tap Apply, then schedule an interview slot.
Attend the interview at the newsroom at the scheduled time.
Impress the interviewer to be accepted; the first shift is added to the daily schedule.

Daily evaluations grade interview count, article submissions, attendance, and team-project contribution. Repeated absences or low scores can result in termination. Long-tenure journalists retire with a v0.8.0 retirement party social event and severance.

Remote work: writing and drafting tasks can be performed at home; in-person interviews still require travel to subjects' lots and workplace attendance for editor meetings.
Journalists collaborate on four-day team projects, typically organized around a single major story. Contribution is graded individually based on the journalist's contribution: number of interviews, words written, story pitches, and final published quality.
Build Rhetoric and Charm before applying. Both skills feed directly into interview success.
Use the in-city travel routine to chain interview tasks. A single neighbourhood pass can clear several daily targets.
Pair the Journalist Career with a freelance Creative or Publishing license once those expansions land; freelance writing complements the staff role cleanly.
