Deaths

Initial version
Zois can die for a variety of reasons. If their Hunger, Sleep, or Energy needs stay critically low for too long, their health rapidly deteriorates. They can also die from car accidents, electric shocks, or eating spoiled food. Game Director Hyungjun "Kjun" Kim has stated that up to 16 different death types are planned.
After death, if the Zoi's karma is too low, they become a ghost.
Old age -- Natural end of lifespan. Occurs roughly 17 in-game days after becoming Senior.
Car accident -- Traffic collision. Player-controlled Zois hitting others is the most reliable trigger.
Fire -- Trapped in a burning building. Can start from cooking accidents, faulty electronics, or candles. See Fire.
Falling/slipping -- Accidental fall on wet surfaces, especially bathrooms and kitchens.
Starvation -- About 3-4 in-game days of critical hunger before death.
Sleep deprivation -- Prolonged sleeplessness causes collapse and death. Players receive warnings beforehand.
Electric shock -- Electrocution during repairs. Chance increases with frequent breakdowns. Hiring professionals is safer.
Lack of recognition -- Severe social neglect or rejection. Critical Recognition need can lead to death from despair.
Disease -- Contracting an illness and failing to treat it. Can progress to a lethal stage.
Pollution -- Prolonged exposure to high environmental pollution gradually damages health.
Anger -- Sustained extreme anger. A rare occurrence.
Embarrassment -- Repeated intensely embarrassing situations.
Food poisoning -- Consuming contaminated or spoiled food. See Cooking.
Overexertion -- Excessive physical activity without rest breaks.
There is no direct "kill" or "murder" interaction. The developers explicitly chose not to include one. Players can, however, cause death indirectly by turning off autonomy and preventing need fulfillment, locking a Zoi in a room without food or beds, starting a house fire while others are trapped, or driving a car into another Zoi.
Permanence: Death is generally permanent.
Rewind: Players are typically offered a "Go Back In Time" option to load a previous save.
Emotional impact: Surviving family and friends experience sadness and depression. Notification messages are sent.
Ghosts: Depending on karma level, the Zoi may return as a ghost.
Children cannot die from neglect or accidents. If a child's needs become critically low, the Child Protection Agency takes them away instead. Teenagers, however, can die like adults.
