Stargazing Range is a mountainous region in Honor of Kings: World, located north of Jixia Academy on the continent of Primaera. Unlike the flat starting plains to the south, the Stargazing Range is defined by rugged vertical terrain, rocky cliff faces, and narrow mountain trails. The region is best known for the Stargazing Terrace, an elevated platform perched near the summit where scholars and students observe the night sky at moonrise. This area marks a noticeable step up in both difficulty and complexity compared to the beginner zones.
The Stargazing Range serves as a transitional zone between the introductory areas around the Academy and the more dangerous territories deeper into Primaera. Players venturing here for the first time will find enemies that require more deliberate combat strategies, terrain that demands climbing and platforming skills, and lore discoveries that begin to unveil the deeper mysteries of the Flow and its connection to celestial events.
The Stargazing Range rises sharply from the flatlands surrounding Jixia Academy, forming a natural barrier along the northern edge of the starting area. The terrain is a mix of exposed rock faces, forested slopes, and narrow ridgelines that offer limited flat ground. Waterfalls cascade down from higher elevations, feeding the streams that eventually flow south into the Springbrook Plains.
Elevation: significantly higher than the surrounding areas, with the Stargazing Terrace sitting at one of the highest accessible points in the starting region
Climate: cooler than the lowlands, with fog settling into the valleys between peaks during morning hours
Terrain features: cliff faces for climbing, narrow ledges requiring careful platforming, rocky overhangs, and hidden cave entrances
Vegetation: pine and cedar forests on the lower slopes, giving way to exposed rock and hardy alpine shrubs at higher altitudes
The vertical nature of the terrain makes the Stargazing Range a natural testing ground for the game's climbing and movement systems. Players who mastered basic traversal in the Springbrook Plains will find new challenges here, including walls that require stamina management to scale, wind gusts that can knock players off ledges, and crumbling handholds that give way after a few seconds.
The Stargazing Terrace is a large stone platform constructed at a high point of the range, offering an unobstructed view of the sky in all directions. The Terrace features an ancient astronomical instrument, a circular device of interlocking stone rings inscribed with celestial symbols. Scholars from Jixia Academy maintain the Terrace and use it to track the movements of stars and celestial bodies visible in Primaera's sky.
Players visiting the Terrace at moonrise will witness a special visual event as the sky transforms, revealing constellations and faint luminous trails that are not visible from lower elevations. This visual spectacle is not purely cosmetic. Interacting with the astronomical instrument during specific celestial alignments can unlock lore entries, trigger hidden quests, and reveal the locations of buried artifacts scattered across the mountain slopes below.
The Terrace is also connected to the game's broader lore surrounding the Flow and Celestia. Inscriptions on the astronomical instrument reference an ancient civilization that once studied the stars to understand the nature of the Flow. Some scholars believe that certain celestial events correspond to fluctuations in Flow intensity across Primaera, a theory with potential gameplay implications for players who pay attention to the sky.
The Stargazing Range is one of the most vertically oriented regions accessible in the early-to-mid game. Exploration here rewards players who look upward and seek alternative routes. Climbing challenges are woven into the terrain naturally, with ledges, handholds, and narrow paths leading to hidden alcoves containing treasure chests, lore items, and scenic viewpoints.
Climbing walls: vertical rock faces with natural handholds; some require upgraded stamina to reach the top
Jumping puzzles: sequences of narrow platforms and collapsing ledges that test timing and precision
Hidden caves: entrances concealed behind waterfalls or on cliff faces, often containing rare materials or miniboss encounters
Viewpoints: reaching certain peaks unlocks panoramic vistas of the surrounding Primaera landscape, filling in sections of the world map
The sense of verticality creates dramatic sightlines. From the higher reaches of the range, players can see the full expanse of the Dreamweave Plains, the gleaming rooftops of Jixia Academy, and distant regions that they will explore later in their journey. These views serve both as scenic rewards and as subtle navigation aids, orienting players within the broader world.
Compared to the beginner-friendly Springbrook and Dreamweave Plains, the Stargazing Range presents a moderate combat challenge. Enemies here are more aggressive, hit harder, and use a wider variety of attack patterns. Mountain wolves hunt in packs and attempt to surround the player. Rock golems, slow but durable, guard narrow passes and require patience to defeat. Avian predators swoop from above, punishing players who ignore threats from elevated positions.
Elite enemies appear near the summit areas and around the Stargazing Terrace itself. These encounters are designed for players who have progressed beyond the tutorial and are beginning to refine their build and gear choices. The difficulty increase is gradual; the lower slopes are manageable for fresh characters, while the upper reaches test players with tighter enemy compositions and less room to maneuver.
The Stargazing Range offers gathering materials not found in the lower plains. Alpine herbs with unique alchemical properties grow on cliff ledges and in the shade of pine forests. Mineral veins exposed by erosion on rock faces yield ores of higher quality than those in the starting zones. These materials become relevant for mid-tier crafting recipes and gear upgrades.
The Stargazing Range connects southward to Jixia Academy via a winding mountain trail. The lower slopes are accessible from both the Dreamweave Plains and the Springbrook Plains through foothill paths. A fast travel waypoint at the base of the range and another near the Stargazing Terrace allow convenient return trips.
The Stargazing Range holds deep significance in Primaera's scholarly traditions. Ancient records preserved at Jixia Academy describe the range as one of the first places where early scholars observed patterns in the Flow and connected them to celestial movements. The construction of the Stargazing Terrace predates the Academy itself, suggesting that the site was sacred to a civilization that existed before the current era. What happened to those original stargazers remains unknown, though fragments of their writings hint at a catastrophic event tied to the alignment of specific constellations.
