Applied Title Case to body headings
The Valley of Mines is the penal colony sealed inside the Barrier and the setting of Gothic 1 Remake. Alkimia Interactive has stated the remake's world is roughly 10 to 30 percent larger than the 2001 original, filling in areas the first team had planned but could not fully develop.
Area | What is there |
|---|---|
Canyon-based landing area and ore transit point. Opening location of the Nyras Prologue demo. | |
Central fortified camp built into the ruins of an ancient fortress. Run by Gomez. | |
Rebel camp dedicated to breaking the Barrier. Water Mages + Mercenaries live here. | |
Religious camp on the edge of the southern swamps. Home of the Brotherhood of the Sleeper. | |
Old Camp's primary ore operation. | |
New Camp's independent ore operation. | |
Xardas's Tower | Remote tower belonging to the necromancer, far from the three camps. |
10 to 30 percent larger. Alkimia has stated the overall world is roughly this much larger than 2001. The rationale given is that some areas in the original were not fully designed, so the remake takes up that potential.
New traversal paths. The remake adds free climbing and underwater diving, both of which open up parts of the valley that were inaccessible in 2001. See Traversal.
Seamless world. Alkimia has said the remake preserves the 2001 map-free navigation philosophy, with landmarks like the monastery ruins and Xardas's Tower returning as wayfinding anchors rather than leaning on HUD arrows.
The three camps sit in roughly different quadrants of the valley. Day-to-day control of the terrain between them is contested: scouts from different camps cross paths regularly, and wildlife does not respect faction boundaries. The Barrier defines the outer edge; everything inside it is up for political and physical grabs.
