Gothic 1 Remake is structured into six main chapters, just like the 2001 original. Each chapter is triggered by a specific story beat, not by a timer, so progression is driven entirely by the quests the Hero takes on.

6 | The Temple of the Sleeper | Enter the temple and confront the Sleeper directly in the campaign's finale. |
Chapter 1 ends when the Hero formally joins one of the three camps. Joining the Old Camp, the New Camp, or the Swamp Camp reshapes the rest of the game in terms of friendly NPCs, available trainers, and political alignment, but the overall six-chapter arc stays the same.
The middle chapters all circle around the hunt for focus stones and the eventual showdown with the Sleeper. The later chapters raise the stakes outside the camps and pull in the Fire Mages, the Water Mages, and Xardas as the Hero prepares for the final descent into the temple.
