By the Hand of a Master is Haenno's bow-making quest in the New Camp. It begins in Chapter 1, but the strongest wood option becomes available from Chapter 2.
Meet Haenno
Find Haenno near the lone small tree on the path northwest of the New Camp tavern. Ask about his work and respond that bows can be useful. Calling bows cowardly can prevent the request from starting.
The Hero needs Bow training first. Find Wolf in the New Camp cavern through the Trainers directory. His initial Bow lesson costs 10 LP and 50 ore nuggets. Return to Haenno once trained.
Choose the wood

Give Haenno the material for the desired bow, allow him to craft it, then return to collect the finished weapon. Petrified Wood does not add a fourth crafting option.
Plan around Dexterity
Ironwood produces the strongest of these three bows, but the Hero must meet its Dexterity requirement. A lower requirement can make the Oak or Willow version usable sooner.
