Fortuna's Blessing

Updated the page summary so it records the Divine Sand cost on Hard alongside the unlimited rewind on Normal
Fortuna's Blessing is the turn-rewind mechanic in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. If an ally falls or a move goes wrong, you can wind the battle back to any earlier point and play it out differently. Nintendo's own framing of it is blunt: do not be afraid to rethink your strategy if things do not go as planned.
The rewind is available after each move, and it is not limited to undoing the last action. You can return to any previous point in the battle, which makes it a tool for reworking a whole approach rather than a one-step undo.

Hands-on accounts of the pre-launch build found no usage limit on Normal difficulty. One of those accounts noticed a resource sitting in the corner of the battle screen and guessed that a harder difficulty might consume it. The resource has since been shown and named: the rewind screen, headed "Select a moment in time to redo", carries a Divine Sand counter, reading 100 in the released shot. The Japanese name for that counter reads as the white sand of the heavenly hour, which is the same phrase the hands-on writer pointed at when guessing that a harder difficulty might spend it. What it is spent on is now settled: on Hard, using Fortuna's Blessing to rewind costs Divine Sand, and the counter on that screen is the stock a run draws from. The guess made from the counter alone turned out to be right about the tie to difficulty, if not about the mechanism. What has been confirmed since is the difficulty ladder itself: two settings, Normal and Hard, set out on Difficulty and Modes. The rewind was unlimited on Normal in every session anyone has described. That same screen lists the turn's actions as a timeline you pick a point in, with a Units Ready row beneath it and a turn counter alongside.
The power belongs to Fortuna, the Dagdan goddess of fate, and she is described as wielding authority over time that was passed down to her by the progenitor god Sothis. Eshmel receives the blessing from her as part of the mission into the past, which is the same errand that drives the game's second timeline. The Direct's own wording for the choice put to the protagonist is to use the time-travelling powers of the goddess Fortuna to change the fates of the four Heroes.
Fortuna's Blessing is a battle system, not one of the Temple Blessings earned by volunteering at the seven temples in Dagsion. Those are separate battle effects such as temporary stat buffs and halved incoming damage. Fortuna does have a temple on the same row as the other members of the pantheon, and by one report her blessing there is the only one that cannot be upgraded, sitting permanently at no Level.
For how the rewind fits into a turn, see the Combat System.
The goddess this power belongs to has her own page at Fortuna, and the soul she hands it to is Eshmel. Temple Blessings is the separate, once-a-week system it is easy to confuse this with.
