Side Content and Endgame
September 12, 2026 at 08:03 AM
Added a Sephiroth section covering the optional find-and-challenge encounter and stating plainly that he is not a Vision, added the demo Chapter 1 estimate to Playtime, and named the cities hosting the two confirmed minigames
Final Fantasy Resonance backs its main scenario with a sizable optional layer. The official feature list names four marquee activities, the producer has pointed to superboss-class enemies beyond them, and a weapon-empowerment loop gives the endgame progression of its own. Character-driven optional quests are covered separately under Side Quests.
Four activities headline the official description of the game's optional content.
Activity | Description |
|---|---|
Gilgamesh | A wandering swordmaster who can be encountered out in the world. Official material places his final battle on a distinctly big bridge. |
Colosseum | A battle venue stocked with deadly monsters and rewards to match. |
Chamber of Arms | Holds formidable foes sealed within legendary weapons. |
Ultima Weapon | At journey's end awaits Ultima Weapon, described as the most formidable of foes. The fight is framed as demanding perfect preparation and a party pushed to its limits. |
Both have since been split onto their own pages: Gilgamesh and Ultima Weapon.
The producer said endgame-style completion content exists in considerable quantity, including enemies he classed at superboss level. Asked about closure, the director said the game is built to deliver a satisfying ending on its own, so the endgame sits on top of a complete story rather than standing in for one.

Square Enix confirmed on September 3, 2026 that Sephiroth appears in the game, and framed the appearance precisely: players can find him and challenge him, and winning unlocks a special reward. As of September 12, 2026, nothing further has been published, including where he is found, what the reward is, and whether any story progress gates the encounter.
He is not a Vision. The sixteen legacy Vision slots run one per FINAL FANTASY I through XVI, Square Enix has published all sixteen pairings, and none of them is his; he carries no Sanctum of Light framing and no Vision reveal of his own. Square Enix has also not placed him inside any of the named optional tracks on this page, so he is recorded here as a standalone optional challenge rather than as a Mighty Foe or a Secret Dungeon boss.
Two more optional categories were named on August 24, 2026, and one of them wires the optional layer directly into character progression.
Content | What It Is | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
Powerful monsters that preside over the many caverns dotting the land. | Defeating one grants magicite, the material spent on awakening Visions, which makes them a progression source rather than a trophy hunt. | |
Optional dungeons pitched at high difficulty. | They sit outside the main story entirely and carry no story requirement. |
Magicite from Mighty Foes feeds Vision Awakening, and dungeon treasure chests are the other published source, so the optional layer is one of only two ways to deepen a Vision.
The endgame's progression system runs through weapons: carrying a base item while defeating strong foes empowers that weapon, so the strongest gear grows out of the hardest fights.
Part of the optional layer hides behind traversal. Dungeons, powerful enemies, and events reachable only by airship are scattered across the world, and the airship can set down at spots that were visible but out of reach earlier; see World Map and Traversal.
Developer estimates put the main scenario at 30 to 40 hours on Normal, with 60 to 80 hours for a run that engages broadly with the optional content. In preview builds, chapter 1 alone ran about five hours, and the free demo released on September 3, 2026 covers that same first chapter with an official estimate of roughly 3 to 5 hours. The producer was direct about the target: a main path in classic RPG proportions, not a scenario that demands 100 hours on its own.
Square Enix detailed two named high-difficulty tracks on July 16, 2026, both framed as content that requires well-developed characters and a considered party composition.
Track | What It Is |
|---|---|
Fights against daunting foes for items, run through leagues. Clearing a league unlocks the next, and stronger foes pay better. Higher leagues field some of the series' most familiar and ferocious opponents, and Japanese material notes they can demand a party at or beyond post-story level. | |
Twelve pieces of equipment sealed at points across the world. Break a seal, defeat the monstrosity sealed within, and claim some of the strongest weapons and armor in the game. Hints for each are viewable in the Chamber of Arms. |
Tablet shards strewn about the world can be collected through side quests; the items you receive scale with how many you gather.
Minigames await in each town and pay out items for playing well. Two are named, and both now have a home city: a jump-rope timing test in Olderion, and Mog Tag, a chase after wily moogles, in Mysidia.
Aileen forges powerful weapons for the party, but she needs adamantite, which turns up in treasure chests inside dangerous crypts and as side-content rewards.
