Echoes of Aincrad has six weapon types, split between four one-handed options that can pair with a shield and two two-handed options with extra reach.
One partner accompanies the player on every quest in Echoes of Aincrad. Ten partners are available across the campaign, each with a fixed weapon type, a Combination Skill, and a Support Skill.
Each weapon in Echoes of Aincrad can unlock roughly ten sword skills over the course of the game, but only two can be equipped at a time.
Attributes are the growth-point stats in Echoes of Aincrad. Players spend points each level to raise stamina, strength, dexterity, mind, and other axes that shape combat performance and build identity.
Special Skills are Echoes of Aincrad's build-defining customization slots. Players choose Special Skills to match their preferred playstyle, and each NPC companion has a unique Special Skill of their own.
Death Game Mode is Echoes of Aincrad's optional permadeath rule: dying while it is active deletes the player's save file. It can be layered onto any of the four difficulty settings.
Echoes of Aincrad has four difficulty modes: Story, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard. Each can be combined independently with Death Game Mode.
Parry Slash, Dodge Slash, and Reversal Slash are the three team-up attacks triggered by timed defensive inputs or punish windows in Echoes of Aincrad.
Echoes of Aincrad includes a smithy system that lets players enhance their weapons and armour to handle tougher enemies. Blueprints define what can be crafted.
Echoes of Aincrad features real-time, stamina-gated action combat with dedicated parry and dodge windows that trigger team-up attacks with the player's NPC companion.
The Switch System is Echoes of Aincrad's core companion-coordination mechanic. Players can chain attacks and change roles with their partner, or hold the partner back for a coordinated strike that splits damage.
Col is the in-game currency of Echoes of Aincrad. It is spent on gear, upgrades, and consumables, and the Deluxe and Ultimate editions' Starter Pack includes a Col grant.
