The Flutter Armor Pack is a set of equipable armour included with the Ultimate Edition of Echoes of Aincrad. It contains Flutter Robes and Flutter Boots.
Theme
The Flutter set is themed after Rex and Emirun, the original characters introduced in the tie-in film Sword Art Online: Unanswered//butterfly. See Unanswered//butterfly for more on the film and its cast.
Overview
The Flutter Armor Pack, listed in store materials under the full name Armor Pack: Flutter Boots and Flutter Robes, is a cosmetic equipment bundle for Echoes of Aincrad. It bundles two pieces, the Flutter Robes for the chest slot and the Flutter Boots for the footwear slot, both styled after the two original characters from the tie-in promotional film Sword Art Online: Unanswered//butterfly. The pack is included automatically with higher tier purchases of the game and is not part of the base Standard release. It is presented as a costume style bonus rather than a core progression item, and it is paired with the bonus contents app that ships the same film alongside concept art and soundtrack material.
Pieces in the Pack
Piece | Slot | Theme |
|---|---|---|
Flutter Robes | Chest / body | Styled after the two protagonists of Unanswered//butterfly |
Flutter Boots | Footwear | Matching footwear for the Flutter Robes |
Both pieces are listed together as a single pack rather than as separate items. Public marketing material for the bundle does not break out an inventory icon for one piece without the other, and store descriptions consistently refer to the pair as a set.
Theme: Rex and Emirun
The Flutter set takes its visual identity from Rex and Emirun, the two original lead characters introduced in Unanswered//butterfly, a roughly two hour animated film produced as a companion piece to the game. In the film, Rex and Emirun are presented as players inside the same trapped MMO setting that Echoes of Aincrad takes place in, and their wardrobe in that film is what the Flutter Robes and Flutter Boots are designed to evoke. Players who watch the film through the bonus contents app will recognize the look directly. The Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad: Unanswered//butterfly Bonus Contents App that ships alongside the Flutter pack contains the full uncut film, a digital art book, a digital soundtrack, and concept art and background art galleries, so the cosmetic and the film bundle are intended to be experienced as a pair.
Because the film is a separate work that runs in parallel with the main game story, the cosmetic does not unlock any new dialogue, characters, or story beats inside the game itself. It is a wardrobe option, not a story flag.
Avatar-Aware Appearance
Flutter Robes and Flutter Boots are described as avatar aware. The set is a single equippable bundle rather than two separate male and female items, but the rendered appearance of the costume changes based on the player avatar's body type as chosen during character creation. The practical effect is that one player wearing the Flutter set will see a silhouette that leans toward the design of one of the two film leads, while a second player with a different avatar body type will see a silhouette closer to the other lead. Neither look is locked behind a separate purchase: both silhouettes are produced by the same Armor Pack item entry.
This avatar awareness fits how the rest of Getting Started handles character creation. The player is not playing as Kirito in this game, and the protagonist is a custom avatar created by the player at the start of the playthrough, so cosmetics that adapt to that avatar choice are a natural fit.
How to Get It
The Flutter Armor Pack is bundled exclusively with the higher tiers of the launch lineup. See Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses for the full edition matrix; for the Flutter pack specifically, the relevant tiers are:
Ultimate Edition (digital, 109.99 USD): Includes the Flutter Armor Pack alongside the rest of the Ultimate bundle. This is the lowest digital tier that includes the pack.
Aincrad Edition (PlayStation 5 disc, 149.99 USD): A physical PlayStation 5 release that includes everything in the Ultimate Edition, including the Flutter Armor Pack, on top of the boxed merchandise contents (beanie, wall scroll, sticker sheet, patches). Anyone buying the Aincrad Edition automatically receives the Flutter pack as part of the included Ultimate contents.
Standard and Deluxe Editions: Do not include the Flutter Armor Pack. Standard buyers receive only the base game and the cross platform pre-order weapon pack, and Deluxe buyers add the Starter Pack, early Death Game Mode access, and the Expansion DLC but still do not get the Flutter cosmetics.
Whether the pack will eventually be sold separately on a per platform storefront after launch has not been formally announced. At launch it is treated strictly as a tier bonus.
Cosmetic Framing
Public materials describe the Flutter Armor Pack as a costume style bonus. Specific defense values, set bonus effects, and any combat statistics for the Flutter Robes or Flutter Boots have not been formally announced. The pack should be treated as an appearance option that swaps the visual of the chest and footwear slots without committing the player to a specific stat profile. Whether the items act as a transmog style override on top of other gear, or as standalone equippable pieces with their own (currently undisclosed) stats, has not been clarified in store materials. This page will be updated once first party stat information is published.
