Marat

Added Crake as the shipped game's name for the same character, with the Manumits leadership, the route into the rebel questline, and the romance reported open-ended rather than as a closed set
Marat is the leader of the human rebellion against vampire rule in Vale Sangora, introduced as part of the cast revealed in the Road to Launch Event Story Trailer on April 28, 2026. In the shipped game he goes by Crake, and Marat is given as his birth name. The two names belong to one person, and this page covers both. He is one of the figures Coen can encounter while searching for allies during the 30-day cycle before Brencis's coronation.
The name Crake is confirmed first-party. A September 2026 hotfix note lists a fix by that name, which puts the character in the shipped build under it. Launch coverage from two independent guide sources gives the relationship between the names the same way: Crake is what he is called in play, Marat is the name he was born with, and he leads the rebel group known as the Manumits against the vampire court that rules the valley.
There is no second character here and no second page. Older material, including the Story Trailer cast and the studio's own community bulletin, uses Marat throughout; play coverage since release uses Crake. Expect both in the wild.
Marat is described by the development team as having a strong moral compass. He firmly believes that Brencis's rule over Vale Sangora must end, but he is not certain whether the alternatives that follow will be any better. That tension between conviction and doubt sits at the center of how he is positioned in the story: a leader who has chosen to act against the vrakhiri regime without claiming the moral high ground that comes with certainty.
As the public face of the rebellion, Marat anchors a movement that is already taking up arms against Brencis. The dev panel describes him as the leader of that resistance, and he is one of the named characters glimpsed in the Story Trailer alongside Coen's family and other potential allies.
Guide coverage of the shipped game gives the rebellion a name, the Manumits, and a route in. Coen meets the group through a chain of quests that begins with The Firebrand in and around his home village, continues through Shadows in the Woods, where a contact named Sara leads him to Crake for the first time, and formalises with Where Loyalty Lies. Their hideout is in Svartrau.
Joining is gated on reputation rather than on a favour. Coen has to have made enough of a nuisance of himself to the regime to be worth trusting, which in system terms means reaching a named rank on the infamy track before the rebels will take him. See Notoriety System for how that rank is earned, and Factions for where the Manumits sit among the valley's other powers.
The questline continues well past the point of joining, and it is one of the routes that leads to a distinct outcome at the end of the game. Coverage of the endings is guide-sourced and heavily spoiler-bearing, so this page does not walk through it.
Marat is one of the potential allies Coen can seek out while choosing how to approach the rescue of his family. Meeting the rebellion is optional content within the narrative sandbox: the game can be completed without ever crossing paths with Marat or his fighters. Allying with him is one of several routes Coen can take, and it carries the kind of risks and rewards that come with disrupting Brencis's network of officers and supplies in the valley.
How far Coen leans into the rebellion, and what he is willing to do alongside it, is left to the player. Marat's own uncertainty about what should replace Brencis's order leaves space for those choices to matter.
Community Bulletin Board #8 (June 1, 2026) frames Marat as a bond worth earning rather than a guaranteed ally. He is courageous and charismatic and inspires loyalty among his followers, but he is constantly on guard and wary of betrayal, and he trusts few. To win his confidence, Coen has to prove his worth and push beyond his limits while racing to save his family. The bulletin ties this into the wider relationship system: bonds can strengthen Coen or test his resolve, and not everyone he meets stays an enemy or a friend.
Launch coverage takes that further and reports him as one of the characters Coen can pursue a romance with, reached through the rebel questline rather than through a separate courtship track. Two independent guide sources say so and agree on the shape of it, but no studio material names a romance roster, so this page records it as reported and does not present the game's romances as a fixed set.
Marat is glimpsed in the Story Trailer released during the Road to Launch Event on April 28, 2026, and characterized in detail by the dev panel during the same broadcast. He is the new reveal of that event, joining Anca and Lacra, who had been teased earlier in the January 2026 launch year trailer, and is shown alongside other figures in Coen's orbit including Mirto, Yanna, Esme, and Pieter.
