Patch 1.01.00
March 30, 2026 at 09:46 AM
Initial version
Version 1.01.00 was released on March 28, 2026 at 18:00 UTC, nine days after the worldwide launch of Crimson Desert. Developed by Pearl Abyss, this is the first major content update for the game, adding five summonable mounts (including three legendary animals and two boss mounts), a new Refinement Token system for equipment upgrading, and sweeping quality-of-life improvements across crafting, inventory management, controls, and combat. The update also includes photo mode enhancements, performance optimizations, graphics improvements, and numerous bug fixes.
The patch was deployed simultaneously on Steam (PC), Steam (Mac), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The Epic Games Store and Mac App Store versions received the update at a later date.

Five new mounts can now be permanently obtained and summoned after completing certain conditions. Three of these are legendary animals and two are boss mounts. Players who had already defeated any of these creatures before the patch retroactively received the corresponding reward materials in their extra rewards list upon logging in.
To unlock a mount, players must first defeat the creature to obtain a crafting material (such as a claw or tusk), then bring it to a witch NPC to craft a special permit. Once the permit is crafted, the mount becomes permanently summonable. Townspeople in Pywel will not react with fear to tamed mounts, allowing players to ride them freely through settlements. Each mount retains its combat attacks, so players can engage enemies while mounted.
Mount | Type | Unlock Condition |
|---|---|---|
White Bear | Legendary Animal | Defeat the White Bear to obtain its claw, then craft a permit at the witch |
Silver Deer | Legendary Animal | Defeat the Silver Deer and craft the corresponding permit |
Silver Fang | Legendary Animal | Defeat Silver Fang and craft the corresponding permit |
Boss Mount | Defeat the Rock Tusk Warthog and craft the corresponding permit | |
Boss Mount | Defeat the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex and craft the corresponding permit |
A new item type called the Refinement Token has been introduced. When used at a blacksmith, a Refinement Token allows equipment to be tempered up to Stage 4 without consuming any additional crafting materials such as iron or copper. Tokens are region-specific (for example, Hernand Refinement Tokens work only at the Hernand blacksmith for Hernand-region gear). They can be obtained as rewards from certain main quests and faction quests. Players who had already completed those quests before this patch received their tokens retroactively upon logging in.
Refinement Tokens appear in a dedicated Key Items tab in the inventory. This system helps newer players power up their equipment more quickly during the early and mid-game stages without needing to farm gathering materials.
New chests containing various crafting materials have been placed throughout Pywel. These provide additional resource rewards for players who explore the open world.
Wholesale grocer shop NPCs have been added to regional farms in Pywel. The knowledge system entries have been adjusted accordingly to reflect the new NPCs and their inventories.

|---|---|
Make Now function | Food and items can now be cooked or crafted immediately from the cooking/crafting menu once a recipe is selected, without having to separately choose ingredients. |
Store All Selected Items | A new function moves all selected items from the inventory to the player's private storage at once. The shortcut is Shift + Right Mouse Button on keyboard/mouse, or Square on PlayStation 5. |
Private Storage chest relocated | The private storage chest in the Howling Hill camp has been moved from behind Karl to inside Kliff's tent, matching how it was positioned in a previous camp iteration. |
Shop knowledge acquisition | All items sold in a shop can now be learned at once with a single interaction, taking just 3 seconds total. Previously, each item had to be learned individually. |
Locked door interaction | An interaction prompt is now displayed when approaching locked doors, letting players choose whether to use a key. Previously, keys were consumed automatically on approach, which wasted keys on doors players did not intend to open. |
Pet behavior | Pets no longer stray excessively far from the player during combat. Fixed an issue where pets could not loot items during certain combat situations. |
Well improvements | Five units of water can now be obtained from wells at a time, up from one. |
Mining Knuckledrill improvement | Items obtained from drilling are now collected immediately into the inventory instead of dropping on the ground. |
Messian Chainsaw improvement | Lumber from felled trees is now collected immediately into the inventory. After cutting down all three logs, they are automatically added to the player's inventory without manual pickup. |
Cuckoo Watcher Pack | The crafting materials required for the Cuckoo Watcher Pack have been changed. |
Abyss Cell compatibility | Abyss Cells dropped from destroying disappearing rocks can now be placed into the Cuckoo Pot. |
Knowledge Helm | All obtainable knowledge visible on the screen can now be acquired at once, rather than one at a time. |
Pirate King Hat range increase | The treasure detection range of the Pirate King Hat has been slightly increased. |
Inventory expansion overflow | Additional inventory expansion items obtained after reaching the maximum of 240 slots now grant a box containing crafting materials and other useful items. |
Pickpocket behavior | Reduced the chance of pickpockets running into houses while fleeing, making them easier to chase. |
Herding improvement | Cattle herding mechanics have been improved for smoother interactions. |
Both the player character and horse movement controls have been improved. Running speed now increases by holding down the sprint key or by tapping it once. The player character and horse will no longer decelerate if the sprint key is not held continuously. However, maintaining a full sprint state still requires periodic input of the sprint button. Stamina consumption while sprinting and using Crow Wings has been reduced.
Player character turning responsiveness during short-distance movement has been improved. The interaction range for NPCs has been expanded to make conversations more convenient to initiate.
Flight stamina consumption has been significantly reduced, bringing it closer to the lower consumption rate previously seen only in The Abyss. This allows players to cover much greater distances while gliding. Additional flight improvements include:
Fixed an issue where the character would briefly stop before transitioning into flight.
Equipped items can now be used while flying.
Fixed an issue where flight would not activate in certain situations.
Aerial Stab has been rebalanced. An unintended interaction previously allowed the skill to be used indefinitely in midair. Rather than removing the mechanic entirely, Pearl Abyss adjusted it so that stamina required for the skill increases with each consecutive use. This preserves Aerial Stab as a fun movement tool while preventing infinite chaining. The skill now features improved animations and works with weapons other than one-handed swords, including greatswords. In practice, players can typically perform about five consecutive Aerial Stabs before running out of stamina.

|---|---|
Stamina required for both skills has been reduced. | |
Weapon draw/sheathe | Weapons can now be drawn using a dedicated unsheathe weapon key (Left D-pad on controller). The UI displays a key guide during combat. |
Weak point indicators | Added visual indicator effects for elemental weak points on enemies. |
Boss revive grace period | Certain bosses and enemies no longer attack immediately after the player character dies and revives, giving players a brief window to recover. |
Fixed an issue where Meteor Kick could be cast midair even when there was no reachable ground below. | |
Focus skill evasion | Fixed an issue where roll and evade could not be performed while using focus skills. |
Fixed an issue where the knockback range was significantly larger than intended. | |
Fixed an issue (keyboard/mouse) where these skills would be interrupted when inputs were given continuously under certain conditions. | |
Blinding Flash Finisher | Fixed an issue where the finisher could launch the player character off cliff edges. |
Axiom Force precise control | Keyboard/mouse only: holding Q or the mouse back button while moving the mouse now allows objects to be moved more precisely. Improved object interaction and added UI guide messages. |
Desert Marauder Ram | The wheels of the Desert Marauder Ram can no longer be destroyed from beyond a certain distance. |
Aim key guide | Added aim key guide for tool-type items. |
Master Dues Circlet | Once equipped, pressing the item-use prompt keys immediately fires projectiles, streamlining its usage. |

|---|---|
Item selection | Changed selecting and using items from mouse hover to mouse click. Left-click selects an item in the inventory; right-click or double-click uses the item. |
Shop selling | Items can now be sold by double-clicking them in shop windows. |
Pouch item selection | Pouch items now default to 'Use All' selection. |
Photo Mode has received several enhancements:
Maximum camera distance has been increased, allowing wider shots.
A field of view (focal length) adjustment feature has been added. Players can create wide-angle landscape shots or zoomed-in portraits by adjusting this slider (R2 on PlayStation).
A camera shutter effect has been added for a more immersive photography experience.

|---|---|
Minimap north lock | The minimap can now be set to a fixed orientation with north always at the top, instead of rotating with the player character's facing direction. |
Minimap faction facilities | Faction facility locations are now displayed on the minimap. |
Skills menu stat preview | The skills menu now shows stat increases for the next skill level. |
Notifications expanded | The notifications menu has been expanded to hold up to 2,000 entries and now displays quest progress and rewards. |
Journal quest indicators | Journal icons now indicate when new quests are available. |
Cooking and crafting recipe grouping | Recipes in the cooking and crafting menus are now grouped by satisfaction type. |
Knowledge menu | The knowledge menu now shows main and subcategories simultaneously for easier browsing. |
Controller button guides | Updated PlayStation L3/R3 and Xbox LS/RS button guide images. |
The sealable items system has been updated. When a sealable item is lost, it now becomes sealed automatically. Items that cannot be sealed are registered as lost items instead. The system has also been improved so that leaving out a sealable item and then saving and reloading the game properly triggers either a sealed or lost item notification, preventing situations where quest puzzles or sanctums could not be progressed.
A critical banking bug has been fixed where money deposited in the bank could disappear when interest was refreshed under certain circumstances. This issue had caused some players to lose significant amounts of saved currency.
Criminal acts no longer decrease contribution until an NPC actually witnesses the act. Previously, committing a crime would reduce contribution regardless of whether anyone was nearby to observe it. This change makes the system more logical: only crimes seen by NPCs carry a reputation penalty.

Translucent material rendering | Improved rendering of translucent materials (hair, fur, clothing) when FSR-RR and DLSS-RR are enabled. |
PS5 Fixed 4K Output | Added a Fixed 4K Output option on PlayStation 5 for a sharper gameplay experience. When enabled, the game outputs at 4K resolution regardless of whether the display natively supports 4K. On the base PS5 in performance mode, enabling this option allows upscaling via FSR. Enabled by default; can be disabled to output according to the monitor's maximum supported resolution. |
DLSS-RR preset | Changed the DLSS-RR preset from D to E, improving visual quality and fixing texture animation issues. |
Screen noise fix | Fixed an issue where screen noise could increase during long gameplay sessions. |
2D visual assets | Replaced select 2D visual assets to better align with the game's art direction. |
Loading times have been reduced when traveling via Abyss Traces (fast travel) and when respawning after death. Multiple stability and crash issues have been resolved across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Mac. Fixed an issue where frame drops occurred during the battle against Crowcaller.

Missing Companion | Chapter 2 | Fixed an issue where the delivery target would sometimes disappear during the quest. |
Dance with the Devil | Chapter 3 | Fixed an issue where destroying totems would occasionally not reduce the totem count. Added additional guide prompts where guidance was previously lacking. |
Fixed an issue where resting or waiting at beds, campfires, and similar objects was unavailable.
Fixed an issue where Damiane and Oongka could become invisible under certain circumstances.
Fixed an issue with bow aiming in certain situations.
Improved the liberation sequence transition so it feels less abrupt when liberating a location.
The Abyss has been made more convenient to play (general usability improvements).
Multiple UI overlap issues have been resolved.
Patch 1.01.00 was widely praised by the community as a substantial first major update. The addition of permanently summonable legendary mounts was a direct response to player feedback, since previously these creatures could only be ridden temporarily after taming. The Aerial Stab rebalancing was another highlight: rather than removing the popular movement trick, Pearl Abyss redesigned it with proper animations and a progressive stamina cost, preserving the fun factor while addressing balance concerns. Flight stamina reduction, the mining/lumber auto-collect improvements, and the locked door interaction prompt were also frequently cited as welcome changes.
